“‘Long Maple Valley’ Great Immortal Jia Ming!”
“Ascending Immortal Sect, Universe Origin No Boundary Great Sage Elder Bird Cloud!”
“Universe Origin Hole Realm Heavenly Emperor Li Ai!”
“Ten Thousand Soul Rebirth Path Earthly Immortal Yan Yu!”
“Scattered Cultivator, Earthly Immortal Mo Chen.”
“Star Warrior Qingyi!”
“Star Warrior Fairy Smoke!”
“…”
As the first rays of dawn illuminated the valley, as all things in the world stirred awake, Zhao Chongguo opened her eyes from relaxation to listen to the deputy general announce the final results. The names of the last ten “Qilin Cubs” caught the Chamberlain Of Military Farms by surprise.
“Are you certain these are the ten Qilin Cubs to serve under me, the Chamberlain Of Military Farms?”
“Yes, my lady.” The deputy general answered seriously.
Zhao Chongguo furrowed her brow, “What happened? The Scattered Cultivator with the highest cultivation here is surprisingly only Universe Origin Three Boundaries Realm, Great Sage Elder Bird Cloud. Could it be that the Lords Of Heaven are uninterested in the Western Fields’ Yuanshou?” The woman was very dissatisfied with this list. Unpresentable, this was too unpresentable. Of the ten people, there was actually not a single Lord Of Heaven. How could she have the face to see Her Majesty the queen when she reached the Qilin Star Kingdom.
Zhang Anshi and Huo Guang would absolutely mock her to no end.
“Subordinate has learned that Lords Of Heaven Cloud Approaches and Marching Sky both attended the Qilin Cub, but they did not appear in the end…It seems they met with a mishap.” The deputy general was very helpless.
“Two great Lords Of Heaven met with a mishap?” The woman curled the corner of her lips: “In this world, only Star Generals at True Phoenix Fifth Stage or higher can manage this.”
“Yes, my lady. Although there is no Lord Of Heaven to send to the Martial Emperor, Subordinate is confident that a True Phoenix Fifth Stage Star General is sufficient to receive the Martial Emperor’s appreciation.” The deputy general faintly smiled, enigmatic.
The two of them discussed. It seemed the Qilin Cubs this time were sacrifices to give to the Qilin Martial Emperor.
“Do you know what her Star Name is?”
“One is ‘Wave Quelling Dragon King’ Ma Yuan.”1
“Ma Tayan has come?” Zhao Chongguo’s eyes brightened: “The Yuanwu Star Kingdom always sends a Star General to die in every Yuanshou. This time, it is surprisingly her.” Of the Yuanwu Star Kingdom’s Cloud Terrace Twenty-eight Generals, Ma Yuan was not ranked at all, but her position was outstanding. She was Son Of Heaven Liu Xiu’s most trusted Star General, practically equivalent to Qilin Star Kingdom’s Huo Guang.
“Seems Liu Xiu’s side is finally impatient.” Zhao Chongguo swept away the haze in her heart. There was nothing more joyous than sending the Yuanwu Star Kingdom’s most capable Star General Ma Yuan to the Martial Emperor. “Is Liu Xiu here?”
“Unclear at the moment.”
“En, well done.”
“My lady, please speak to these ‘Qilin Cubs’ now.” The deputy general deferentially beckoned.
“En…” The woman rose and walked forward.
…
Weiyang Palace, Azure Pond Garden.
Liu Hongyu wore a skintight qilin robe. Her graceful figure was highlighted in multiple places. She held twin swords, the weapons exceptionally gorgeous. They had winding blades modeled after a “qilin.” The snow-white edges glinted with green light, reflecting light as if they were bright gems sunk to the bottom of a quiet pond. In the sword-light was thick mist and dancing qilin.
These swords were names “Heavenly Qi” and “Earthly Lin”; they were her Destined Star Weapons.
There were but a few people in the world who had seen the Heavenly Qi and Earthly Lin sword dance and lived. The woman standing in front of her counted among them.
Liu Hongyu tied her long hair into a bun. She had a delicate face, an expression without frown or fury. She wore an unsettling grin as she stared at her opponent.
The woman facing her was tall in stature. She wore a light blue shirt with silver markings and butterfly embroidery. Her long sleeves seemed to dance and flutter in the wind. She had a thin waist, and her lower body wore a long skirt with goose-yellow embroidery and white jade orchids.
Her hair was arranged in a simple bun with only a few milky white pearls for adornments, contrasting with the luster of her cloud silk and black jade. She had an absolutely beautiful complexion, a delicate and straight nose, thick eyebows, full lips, and flowing dark black hair that cascaded down.
Any way she looked, the woman in front of her was a bit heroic, a bit charming, all heavenly.
The woman’s white palm gripped a wide longsword. It appeared to be forged from bronze, heavy and thick, and it was etched with a mysterious inscription. A wolf’s head acted as the hilt, the blade jutting out from its mouth. Two wing-like decorations were affixed to both its sides.
Its sword-light was blood-colored, surging through space. On it were eight flowing and glowing stars, forming starry demon-light that enshrouded this sword in indescribable power.
“Demon Glow”2
This sword’s name.
“Nameless Sword…known throughout the world.” Qilin Martial Emperor Liu Che sized up her opponent.
“Martial Emperor, pardon Guang.” The woman’s words were stern as she drew her sword to match. The demon-light on the sword suddenly roared and rushed over like pack of wolves.
Her figure flickered. The demonic sword-light surrounded Liu Hongyu in countless ways.
The woman brandished her own Destined Star Weapon, “Heavenly Qi and Earthly Lin.” Green sword-light shook apart all of the roaring demonic wolves. Liu Hongyu stepped forth gracefully, then her twin swords danced.
Unbelievable green sword-light glowed more blindingly and gorgeously than the sun or moon.
Between the two swords, “qi” and “lin” intertwined endlessly.
The woman wielded her long sword, “Demon Glow.” Even though it gleamed with Eight Star, it could hardly stop the Qilin Martial Emperor’s invasion. Shortly after, she was forced back and could only wearily resist.
“Phoenix Earth Rank, Heavenly Wolf Death!”
Her long sword slashed. Demon-light became several oddly-shaped and ferocious wolves that nipped at Liu Hongyu. Even the gleam of the Qilin Martial Emperor’s Destined Star Weapon dimmed in that instant against the Earth Rank.
The Heavenly Qi and Earthly Lin swords pierced through the Heavenly Wolf Death.
The woman retreated.
But this was meaningless. The twin swords already pressed against her neck without obstruction.
The Qilin Martial Emperor ripped apart the demon-light. She gracefully and arrogantly stood above her opponent.
“The Martial Emperor is extraordinary, Guang loses.” The woman pursed her lips and shook her head as she put away her weapon.
“Not enough.” Liu Hongyu also shook her head: “Back then, ‘Champion Heavenly King’ Huo Qubing scaled the Khentii Mountains and made sacrifices, shaking the entire world. At ten years old, she cut down the Foreign Star Field’s rulers. Her martial force is sufficient to leave some Star Marquis in her dust.”
“Huo Qubing is an outstanding genius in Star World. There are very few like her in Star World.” The woman shook her head.
“Pity, This Martial Emperor cannot conquer her. But, Guang, you cannot lose to her.” Liu Hongyu allowed no room for refusal.
“Guang shall do her utmost.”
“En. Your technique just now is already pretty good. Trained to proficiency, it will not be inferior to the Champion Heavenly King I saw before, but it is missing something.” Liu Hongyu still could clearly sense the distance between them was somewhat large. As the head of the Qilin Pavilion, the Qilin Martial Emperor did not like this gap.
“Please, teach me, Martial Emperor.” The woman fell to a knee.
Liu Hongyu pursed her lips. She had battled with Huo Guang countless times. Although the Nameless Sword martial art’s level was already sufficient to be outstanding, it was always lacking something compared to Huo Qubing.
It was nevertheless this tiny “thing” that made Liu Hongyu feel a world of difference.
The Qilin Martial Emperor was a tyrannical queen. She could use formidable martial force to crush everything she did not like, but in regards to the gap between her and much weaker Star Generals, Liu Hongyu basically was unable to feel how much different they were. Thus, she had no way of answering just what the Nameless Sword was missing.
However, this problem, did not vex her for too long. Someday in the future, this bewilderment would receive its answer from a man.
“I shall spar with you several more times.” Liu Hongyu said: “Right, are any of your Qilin Cubs this time interesting?”
“Answering to the Martial Emperor. There is a Star Warrior named ‘Su Mushuang,’ who is a disciple of the Purple Firmaments Immortal Palace.”
“The Purple Firmaments Immortal Palace. One of Star World’s Ten Great Sects. I heard the sect accepts only female disciples.” Liu Hongyu grinned in rumination.
Huo Guang answered: “Yes. The Purple Firmaments Palace has a ‘Purple Domain Qi Training CHant’ that can cultivate Star Energy. The disciples of the palace reportedly are once in a century geniuses. They always stay in the Purple Firmaments Star Field and very rarely depart from the Star Field.”
And?
Liu Hongyu’s brows hinted at her to go on.
“The Purple Firmaments Immortal Palace has a power called ‘Purple Rose Astrology.’ Rumor says that it was devised by the Immortal Palace’s founder, the Fox of Voracious Admiration.”3
“Hm, Purple Rose Astrology. I have also heard of it.” Liu Hongyu was somewhat interested. Purple Rose Star was the strongest Realm for Star Generals in Star World. All abilities related to Purple Rose were Star World’s strongest powers. This Purple Rose Astrology reportedly could divine Star World’s countless stars to solve heavenly mysteries and was somewhat akin to Yuan Tiangang.4
“Guang was curious and asked about her.” Huo Guang said.
The result?
Liu Hongyu wanted to know about this. The Purple Firmaments Immortal Palace’s disciples very rarely ventured out into the world. Once they stepped out of the Star Field, they definitely were concealing some mystery. Given the Purple Firmaments Immortal Palace’s astrology, they should have learned the significance of Liu Hongyu hosting the Yuanshou.
This absolutely was not the so-called party pleasure.
“She said that a black star would appear in this ‘Yuanshou,’ that the Four Symbols White Tiger will return to Heaven. That is why she has come.”
“Heaven? Could it be that someone will hunt and kill the White Tiger?” Liu Hongyu was disdainful: “I am Heaven. Not even the Central Star Field dares to anything. Even if that Dream In A Millennium comes, I will get rid of her for good!!”
“The Purple Firmaments Immortal Palace’s astrology is never a shot in the dark. Martial Emperor had better be a bit more concerned.” Huo Guang deferentially said.
“I actually want to see who can hunt the qilin.”
Liu Hongyu sneered.
