Rivernest, governor’s mansion.

There was singing and dancing, cheers and laughter.

In the main hall, a mighty and majestic man had his arms wrapped around several alluring and lightly dressed female singers, enjoying the pleasures they provided. Nearby, there were two bodyguards who had already lost their discipline as soldiers and were fondling a few other entertainers, their lustful appearances completely revealed.

Other than them, there were some officials of Rivernest, but each of their expressions bore very stiff smiles.

Among them, the governor, Pu Xiuyong, watched the dancers with his doddering eyes and his head full of grey hair.

“Governor Pu, what’s that look for? Don’t tell me you don’t welcome This General’s visits?” His whole body clad in armor, one of the imposing man’s hands fondled the entertainer’s chest as he showed a wide grin.

He was none other than the Supreme General of the Southern Suppression Camp, Yu Huaizheng.1

As a Void Return level great cultivator, Yu Huaizheng already had no hopes for entering Fate Realization Realm. Ever since he was stationed at Nan Jiang, he had unconsciously fell and decayed to the local custom. However, this could not be helped.

Nan Jiang’s venomous bugs were too numerous. Though he had powerful cultivation, he was not like the other periphery Supreme Generals that grandly attacked the enemy. Each day he spent guarding this humid place had already wore down his patience. If it was not for the natural beauty of the tribal girls in this place enticing him, Yu Huaizheng would long have deserted. However, it was precisely because of these young, budding girls that they had any interest staying in this place.

“Many thanks to the Supreme General for restoring order, that Rivernest’s people can live in peace and work happily. Come, I’ll toast the general.” Pu Xiuyong dryly smiled as he raised a crystalline cup.

The other officials also immediately flattered him with toasts.

Since ancient times, the common people did not fight the officials, and officials did not fight the generals.

Pu Xiuyong was well aware of Yu Huaizheng’s deeds and conduct, but he was helpless. The man could utterly destroy him with naught but a thought. As the governor, other than capturing some petty criminals, he could only turn a blind eye to the officers.

Yu Huaizheng erupted into laughter and drained his cup.

“Lord General, we hear that His Imperial Majesty has issued an imperial edict dispatching the zhuangyuan of the Divine Warrior Examination to Nan Jiang to aid the Lord General. It seems he is the famous Highness of Chang’an Mansion.” Pu Xiuyong asked somewhat expectantly.

Yu Huazheng was disdainful. “Oh, there was something like that. Reportedly, he was conferred full powers as Supreme General of Nan Jiang to subjugate the area.”

“Don’t tell me that His Imperial Majesty actually wants to attack Nan Jiang?” Pu Xiuyong was delighted. This meant that the Southern Suppression Camp would be required to mobilize, a good thing for Rivernest. Ordinarily, the people would be very opposed to war, but now, they were all too eager for the Southern Suppression Camp to be drawn into battle as soon as possible. It would be best if those officers all were wiped out. It was obvious how the city’s people felt about the Southern Suppression Camp.

“I heard a new Star General appeared in Nan Jiang, and now, they are in turmoil.”

“His Imperial Majesty is very bold to do something like this.”

“This is but a good chance for the Supreme General to gain achievements.”

Rivernest City’s officials echoed each other.

“Gain achievements, more like send him to die.” Yu Huaizheng sneered. There were so many Star Generals standing guard in Nan Jiang. When even the Great Ancestor Emperor died, how could the current Emperor Tang have the guts do dare go touch this place. As long as Nan Jiang’s Star Generals did not start quarrels, Emperor Tang would have to thank the Heavens. How could he dare go launch an attack.

Yu Huaizheng secretly already knew of Emperor Tang’s decree. On the surface, this dispatch instated Chen Mo with full powers as the Supreme General of Nan Jiang. In reality, Emperor Tang was prepared to use Nan Jiang’s gu masters and Star Generals to get rid of him.

To die on the same battlefield that the Great Ancestor Emperor died upon was presumably the greatest reward for that wet-behind-the-ears, His Highness Whatever White Clothed Tanhua.

The officials were shocked.

“Why does the General say this?” Pu Xiuyong asked.

The nearby deputy general promptly berated him: “Governor Pu, matters of war do not require your questions!!”

“Your Servant had a slip of the tongue. Another toast.” Pu Xiuyong awkwardly apologized.

“Eh, Governor Pu treats This General so well, it’s all thanks to the governor’s generosity. Otherwise, my soldiers would have already gone insane. What harm is there in talking with Governor Pu, no need to be impolite.” Yu Huaizheng was surprisingly not so forceful.

“Yes.”

“This Nan Jiang is a tiger’s den. Does the governor believe an immature child can subjugate this place? Come here.” Yu Huaizhang hinted to Pu Xiuyong to approach. The old man moved close. This Supreme General whispered something, and Pu Xiuyong’s expression changed.

“Don’t tell me Chang’an’s situation is this vile?”

“Heh, heh, Lord Governor needs to only quietly fulfill your job. Leave the fighting and bleeding to us. Of course, so long as you satisfy This General with some bleeding on the bed, ha, ha.” Yu Huaizheng laughed.2

“Lord General’s words are very true. Your Servant will definitely do his utmost to fulfill it.” Pu Xiuyong did not dare disagree.

Yu Huaizheng was in the middle of drinking in pleasure when an urgent voice suddenly came from the doorway.

“Lord General.”

A sword-light shot into the room, frightening the entertainers away.

Although Yu Huaizheng was completely drunk, he actually was not an incompetent character. His eyes instantly became more vicious than a wild beast’s. The intruder’s scream was stopped by Yu Huaizheng’s divine might.

“Lord General, it’s me, Luo Hua.”

“Commandant Luo?”

Yu Huaizheng released the pressure, and Commandant Luo knelt with a sorry figure on the ground.

“Commandant Luo, why’re you so flustered, don’t tell me you wanted to drink with the general?”

“Lord Governor, give Commandant Luo a seat.”

“Lord General, things are bad, the camp’s going through changes!” Commandant Luo was already torn with anxiety. How could he still have the desire to seek pleasure when he was in such a panic.

“The Highness that His Imperial Majesty sent has said he wants to reorganize the camp, and he’s ordered our brothers without permission to report on each other. He already killed Commandant Ying Changtian and the others. Please, General, hurry and stop him.” Commandant Luo hatefully said.

“What did you say.”

They were stunned.

A tremendous murderous aura immediately filled the room. Those officials were already unable to draw breath, their complexions turning ashen.

The entertainers that were still smiling in Yu Huaizheng’s embrace screamed, their ribs crushed by his grip. Yu Huazheng threw the women aside as if he was throwing away trash, and he immediately stood up.

“To dare kill my people without my orders, even if his father is here, I’ll show him.”

He let out a furious roar, shattering all the utensils in the room. The entertainers and officials that did not have high cultivation leaked blood from their seven apertures. Even Pu Xiuyong nearly fainted. The old man’s expression was lifeless as he muttered to himself. “Don’t tell me there truly is someone who would act against the Southern Suppression Camp. The heavens have eyes, the heavens have eyes…”3

Chen Mo sat in a chair, coldly staring at the paper slip reports that all the soldiers had methodically and anonymously tossed into the camp’s chest. Chen Mo’s Divine Intent covered it all, seeing clearly down to the smallest detail. Some officers that tried to pull a small trick were executed by Chen Mo on the spot. Afterwards, those insidious and scheming soldiers kept quiet out of fear, not daring to harbor any dangerous thoughts.

Zhang Ming was still a bit nervous.

“What are you worried about?” Chen Mo carefreely said: “The Southern Suppression Camp has several dozen commandants, and only those few had impure schemes. Don’t tell me you’re still afraid of them.”

“Your Highness is right. Your Humble Servant is merely concerned about General Yu.”

“Since I dared to do something like this, I’m not afraid of him if he looks for trouble. The Southern Suppression Camp is the great battalion that the Great Ancestor Emperor left behind. Yet it’s in turmoil right now, and the people are unable to make a living. What use is there in such an army.”

Sensing the resentment in Chen Mo’s words, the officers standing near Chen Mo expressed their approval. In his heart, Zhang Ming heaved a long sigh, both in admiration and worry. He admired Chen Mo’s decisiveness and courage, but he worried that Chen Mo was too young to be a match for Yu Huaizheng.

“Commandant Zhang Ming, no need to worry. His Highness’ actions are very lucky indeed for the Southern Suppression Camp. Your Humble Servant has long waited for such a day.”

“Yes, Your Humble Servant also cannot stand the sight of those people with corrupt reputations.”

The officers were righteously indignant, unable to bear the sight of their coworkers bullying the common people. Particularly, those officers who raped girls were especially wicked and vile.

“But regarding everyone, I will investigate everyone thoroughly without exception.” Chen Mo said.

“Rest easy, Your Highness, we absolutely will not dishonor the Southern Suppression Camp’s reputation.”

“Please investigate everything, Your Highness.”

Seeing their firm righteousness, Chen Mo had many plans for them.

At this time, an immense force that seemed to topple a mountain came rolling from afar. Everyone in the camp stopped their work. The expressions of Zhang Ming and the others became serious when they saw the newcomer.

“No one stop. Even if This Highness must stake his life, the scourge inside the Southern Suppression Camp must be rooted out. Absolutely no compromises!” Chen Mo’s voice rolled like thunder, jolting everyone awake.

“Ha, ha, ha, ha, Your Highness Mo, it’d be better to think this over. What if something really happens while you use that life as a guarantee. This General would not be able to explain it to Lord Chang’an so easily.”

A bright and clear laugh descended from the heavens, the earth split, and a tall man landed like a celestial soldier in front of Chen Mo.

This man was as majestic as an iron tower. Chen Mo’s thin and weak body honestly was like a child’s in comparison.

Chen Mo’s back remained perfectly straight, confronting this man’s pressure with indifference. His expression was unperturbed, as if he was leisurely strolling through a garden. He set down Nianyou and respectfully cupped his fist. Chang’an Mansion’s heirs were the swords of the dynasty, and they did not need to kneel to the emperor. On the other hand, the general must salute upon seeing them. Zhang Ming and the others did not dare be careless and immediately knelt.

“We greet Lord General!!”

Yu Huaizheng was taken aback as he stared at Nianyou, a glint that displeased Chen Mo flashing past his eyes. It was precisely this glint that made Chen Mo decide to root out the filth in the army. However, Chen Mo restrained the displeasure in his heart, knowing that the man in front of him was not as easy to kill as Commandant Ying and the others.

“Your Servant is Chen Mo, specially reporting to the general.” Chen Mo took out the military slip.

“General, do you still have a general like me in your eyes?” Yu Huaizheng very quickly concealed that bit of desire in his heart. His eyes glowered with a righteous glare.4 He stared at Commandant Zhang Ming and the others, punishments already appearing in his mind when he saw their position. “The camp is so chaotic, how scandalous. Commandant Zhang, you had your duties, hurry and go receive punishment!”

The expressions of Zhang Ming and the others changed.

“Ignore that.” Chen Mo waved his hand to stop the others.

“All things that happened to day were my ideas. They are completely unrelated to Commandant Zhang and the others. Several other officers also answered my question under my orders. Whatever offenses they may have committed, you are wrong to blame them, General.”

Yu Huaizhang stared at Chen Mo. “This means that what Commandant Luo and the others said was true. Your Highness has only just reported in to the Southern Suppression Camp and killed a few soldiers who offended you. Since they have offended you, This General shall report to His Imperial Majesty about the heavy punishment that Your Highness issued, but what is going on with the confusion that this snitching has brought on. Don’t tell me that the Southern Suppression Camp is a place that shelters criminals? Your Highness is truly very courageous.” The last few words about courage were emphasized in particular, as if they were a knife digging into his heart, as if everything would explode the moment someone let their guard down.

Chen Mo calmly smiled.

“I naturally have assigned people to investigate this matter thoroughly. If the Southern Suppression Camp truly has filth like that, the Great Ancestor’s spirit in Heaven would presumably be delighted to see me get rid of them.”

Yu Huaizheng guffawed: “They say that aristocrats like to kill a chicken with a blade to warn the monkeys. Your Highness Mo, aren’t you afraid of stirring change by behaving so boldly during your first visit to Nan Jiang? Although making an example of criminals is good, you might teach the monkey to kill a chicken.” At the end, his tone contained a faintly threatening tone.

“Then we must see if that monkey can even take up that blade.” Chen Mo disagreed.

Yu Huaizheng was taken aback. This brat was completely different from what he thought.

No.

He was even caught a bit off guard.

This guy was very dangerous.
