The Spirit-severing Sword moved in his hand, forming an absolutely beautiful sword-light that illuminated space. Its omnipresent slash beheaded one of the sinister beasts that had emerged from the ground. The second pounced in fury, its mouth expelling a murky miasma that wrapped around the Spirit-severing Sword.
Immediately after a grievous howl, this withered, dry riverbed-like area split apart again and again. Beast after monstrous half-snake, half-human beast shot out of the ground.
These monsters’ human halves appeared quite frightening, accelerating like ants.
The first half-snake, half-human beast lead the charge. To say nothing of its bizarre appearance, the speed of its attack was exceptionally fierce, like a gust, and this beast’s push also set off the signal to attack. The entire corridor came to life as a dozen of the beasts reared their bodies, emitting turbid qi as they pounced.
Qi Lin was not afraid of their breath. Though his magic treasure was trapped by their turbid qi, a Heavenly Vertical Earthly Horizontal Escape allowed him to bound over.
So incredible.
His first bound landed on this Fierce Beast. Qi Lin surprisingly felt the tip of his foot go numb, a bit outside of his control. He added more strength to finally barely jump off this creature.
The other dozen suddenly attacked at this moment.
“Let’s go.” Qi Lin did not want to tangle with these Fierce Beasts. He immediately spoke to Xuesha, and his figure suddenly stopped. An enormous noise came from the ground below, as sudden as an explosion, for a large hole appeared in the ground from the recoil of Qi Lin’s step. His entire person already shot like a cannonball across the twenty zhang space separating the two. While still in midair, Qi Lin formed a sequence of hand seals. The Nine Fingers Of Hells’ finger-shadows attacked like demons, their countless numbers bringing a sharp whistle as they flew towards the Fierce Beasts.
Bang, bang, bang.
The dozen Fierce Beasts surrounding them were completely repelled, but more still leapt over fearlessly.
After a round, Qi Lin surprisingly felt a bit numb.
“Hè!” Xuesha also launched an attack. The girl raised her hand, and countless star-lights danced in her palm, exploding like cannonballs.
Just when Qi Lin and Xuesha worked together to face off against the beasts, another group of Fierce Beasts were suddenly shaken. Qi Qi brandished her staff, completely sending these Fierce Beasts flying with unstoppable force that could sweep over an army. These beasts were completely unable to suppress Qi Qi’s strength and were completely drilled into the ground in an instant.
Very quickly, the Demon Beasts all retreated.
Qi Qi walked over as she fiddled with her staff.
Seeing that they were safe, Qi Lin then glanced at Xuesha, his expression a bit suspicious, unable to comprehend how he sensed she was here.
“Many thanks.” Xuesha slightly nodded, expressing her gratitude. The girl patted the dust off herself and tidied her clothes. She was calm upon recognizing the Great Sage Equal Of Heaven, showing no shock in the slightest.
“How do you know my identity?” Qi Lin was confused, a bit incredulous about the scenes that appeared in his mind just now.
Everything about Xuesha’s encounter with danger just now seemed so vivid and lifelike in front of him, as if he himself was there.
Xuesha was silent, her gaze oddly stuck on him.
Qi Lin scratched his nose and suddenly recalled something: “Does this have something to do with the Moonlight Bright Treasure?”
Xuesha murmured to herself for a while, “En, that was the Moonlight Bright Treasure of a ten thousand year jiaozhen. The silver-light it emitted will link our souls together. This being the case, as long as we are near one another in a certain range, we can sense the other’s situation.”
“Ah, so there was something so great…so greatly terrible…” Qi Lin said in astonishment.
Xuesha cast a sidelong glance at him: “I never imagined you would be Xiaoyao.”
Qi Lin stared at her calm expression. This was a clear explanation as to why during the auction, Xuesha would use a hundred thousand Wu jade to buy the three Origin Taiji Pills for him. She must have known his identity and helped him out of that awkward situation.
“Thanks.” Qi Lin’s heart warmed.
Xuesha brushed her hair back.
“Big Brother, what’s your relationship with her?” Qi Qi stared at Xuesha with hostile intent.
“We’re friends.”
Qi Lin lifted his head to look at this subterranean trench and noticed the secret passage to the Earth sacrifice area was here. The pair walked forward, and thanks to Qi Qi’s intimidation, they did not fear those strange tomb beasts. As they traveled together, Qi Lin also asked in passing why she would appear here.
“I came in search of the Illusionary Flying Snow.” Xuesha’s answer was not surprising.
“Then could it be you also want to subjugate this Spirit Beast?”
“You ask too many questions. I have my own plans.” Xuesha shook her head.
Seeing she was not like the others, who were moved by greed, Qi Lin did not probe further.
The two continued onward. Qi Lin’s archaeological and tomb-raiding instincts were somehow stimulated. He carefully inspected this trench. The walls had no adornments, but they exuded the pungent stench of mud, a bit incongruous with the immaculate pill hall.
“Big Brother, be careful.” Qi Qi suddenly stopped and stood in front of Qi Lin.
Qi Lin lifted his head to look. Under the dim Soul Returning Lantern, several human figures appeared in the passage forward. These shadows stood tall against the darkness, high and mighty. Each was surprisingly more than two meters tall, like they were guards. Even from a hundred meters away, he could sense bone-chilling killing intent.
The group stopped and glanced at one another.
The several hundred figures also stared at Qi Lin, not moving a muscle.
“Just smoke and mirrors!!!” Qi Qi could not hold back her temper. She leapt over and swung her staff.
“Look out for mechanisms.” Qi Lin wanted to stop her but was already too late.
Qi Qi’s staff smashed. Her target did not even move, and one of the figures collapsed, leaving Qi Qi standing there staring blankly.
Qi Lin and Xuesha hurried over. Once they were close, the dim light finally revealed that these tall figures were surprisingly lifelike figures. “So it turned out to be a sacrificial pit for figures.” Qi Lin finally resolved the doubt in his heart.
As far as the eye could see, there were row after row of figures more spectacular than Qin Shi Huang’s terracotta army, and each figure emitted a gloomy air.
Under the debris of that figure that Qi Qi had smashed, there was surprisingly a white bone.
“Huh, don’t tell me these are figures created using actual people?” Qi Lin was alarmed.
“Impossible, how could the White Emperor use living sacrifices.” Xuesha frowned.
Qi Lin was unconvinced.
Qi Qi smashed another figure to smithereens. Peeling away the layers of dirt, an ash-white skeleton appeared, as expected. Qi Lin gathered these bones, only to discover that these bones were odd. Each had barbs, unlike an ordinary person’s, and what was even stranger was that Qi Lin was unable to find a skull. Amongst the several figures he searched, there was not one skull.
What was going on here?
Qi Lin was confused.
This was the first time that Qi Lin had seen such a “headless True Person figure sacrifice.” In any sacrificial ground, every construction and detail to the sacrifice was deliberate. It was impossible for something to be uncalled for, to be unconventional.
“Xuesha, do you know anything?”
Xuesha slightly shook her head. The girl’s gaze was a bit perplexed: “You seem very familiar with such things?” Seeing Qi Lin’s technique was smooth, it was certain he had experience in this field.
“I have experience.”
Xuesha grunted but did not pursue further questions.
