An enormous marsh very quickly obstructed their way forward.

The second Divine Gate was located on the marsh’s opposite bank, and it appeared similar to the first. The enormous jade fence was like a spine, and there was also a crouched Kaiming Beast relief.

This swamp was extremely quiet, lacking even the slightest sign of life. A few white bones floated on the surface, unclear whether they were animal or human. The swamp was like a moat encircling the second Divine Gate. Because they had entered Jade Void Peak’s Kunlun Hall, no one dared to be careless. They stood in front of the swamp, refusing to act rashly.

“Since those able to pass through the Nine Divine Gates are all extraordinary characters, it seems everyone is thinking the same as Your Servant, that this marsh is not so simple.” Xuanxuzi matter-of-factly said.

“Xuanxuzi, your cultivation is the highest. Why not help scout the path for us.” Hou Yi made a request.

Xuanxuzi looked at Qi Lin, unmoved: “Why not first ask for this Little Fellow’s perspective first. Perhaps he has some insight.”

“Forgive Your Servant’s dull eyesight, I cannot see anything.” Qi Lin courteously replied.

Xuanxuzi harrumphed. At last, he found a bit of his pride as a Primordial Infant cultivator: “Then watch This True Person. This is nothing more than a swamp…” Saying this, he formed a hand seal, “Dark Light Void Escape Technique!” With a cold shout, Xuanxuzi’s body hovered and became an aurora, instantly flitting towards the marsh’s opposite bank.

His body technique could already be described as fleeting, but no one could have imagined that as he maneuvered through the swamp, an anomaly would suddenly appear. The deathly marsh’s surface split apart, and then an enormous shadow flew out to devour Xuanxuzi.

That was a terrible maw, one that seemed capable of swallowing the sun and moon, and it instantly closed around Xuanxuzi.

The Primordial infant cultivator’s expression changed. Fortunately, his cultivation was exceptional. His Primordial Infant moved, and “Dark Light Split” ripped open space, returning him to the bank in the nick of time.

“What is this!!”

Xuanxuzi gnashed his teeth, his whole body breaking out into a cold sweat.

A giant python emerged from the swamp. This serpent’s upper half surfaced over the swamp; its size was immense, requiring several full-grown people to fully surround the circumference, as with an old tree. Its head was green, its body black. The snake scales were as glossy as mirrors, appearing like crystals. A strange green stripe spiraled from its tail to its head, concentrating into an odd eyeball, as if it had a third eye.

The snake’s eyes were giant, domineering. Its mouth expelled white qi like a storm.

“Xiushe!”1

Hou Yi recognized this Demon Beast at a glance. The Xiushe was a primordial beast capable of swallowing elephants whole, only spitting the bones out after three years. Its maw was immense, and for that, it was also called the Bashe that gulped elephants. Even a Primordial Infant cultivator could only become food for it once swallowed, unless they possessed formidable powers.

This type of Demon Beast devoured humans in order to cultivate. It was exceptionally savage, and back during the Primal Chaos Heavenly Court period, the Xiushe was used in the Ba Kingdom as a human-killer Demon Beast. Two of these snakes were able to completely deplete a city of a million in days. So ravenous were they that they were also called the Bashe.

After the Primal Chaos Heavenly Court was destroyed, the Ba Kingdom was, too. The Xiushe were practically exterminated, and the methods to tame them were lost. However, the Xiushe’s Inner Core contained the essences of all creatures it had devoured, making them priceless. After ingestion, it could boost cultivation by a few hundred years.

When Yi originally visited the Queen Mother Of The West, it was said that she had slain the Xiushe.

“I never imagined that the Western Kunlun Mountains would still have such a ruthless Demon Beast.” Shi Xuan was pale.

Xuanxuzi, Gan Man, and the others suddenly placed their gazes on Qi Lin. Previously, they had promised this young man to take any Demon Core for this young man, and now that there was surprisingly the Xiushe, this youth certainly would not let this opportunity go.

Nevertheless, they did not expect Qi Lin to say: “Your Servant fears that this Xiushe’s Demon Core cannot be enjoyed. However, the immediate priority is to slay it first, then cross the swamp.”

Xuanxuzi gave him a look that said, You know your place. “Hmph, This True Person shall subdue it. Gan Man, Shi Xuan, work with me.”

In the blink of an eye, Xuanxuzi activated the magic treasure Blue Sky Seal. It became a majestic and immense blue light, smashing down towards the Xiushe’s head as if the heavens themselves were a boulder.

How could they foresee that Xiushe would open its mouth, and in an instant, gulp down this bright blue light entirely. It did so as easily as if it had swallowed air. Xuanxuzi’s powerful magic treasure had surprisingly been eaten.

“Ah, no!” The color drained from Xuanxuzi’s face. He tried with all his might to control the magic treasure, but he found that after it had been swallowed by the Xiushe, the cultivated Divine Intent imprint on the magic treasure had been completely severed.

Xuanxuzi promptly used a second magic treasure. This one was a blade. Although not as astounding as the Blue Sky Seal, it was sharp and penetrating, sufficient to tear apart internal organs.

But the Xiushe gulped the blade down, too. This sharp magic blade also entered its belly, and the Xiushe surprisingly showed no signs of discomfort. On the contrary, it let out a hiss that sounded like a snicker.

“It appears that this Xiushe’s Bashe Gulps Elephants can devour any magic treasure. Everyone, do not use any more.” Shi Xuan promptly said.

“If magic treasures do not work, then we use martial force.” Hou Yi drew the Sunset Over Western Hill and shot a flaming arrow. Her attack was simply fatal, the arrow-light shooting straight towards the serpent’s head.

The arrow contained Divine Energy. Aware of its might, the Xiushue furiously hissed, and the stripe that ran along its entire body glowed blue.

The blue light formed a large net that immediately ensnared the arrow.

But Hou Yi’s arrow-light tore it apart. Carrying an air-shattering whistle and an intense astral wind, it mercilessly shot into the Xiushe’s divine body.

“Boom.”

The Xiushe recoiled as if struck by lightning, its body quaking fiercely as it hissed in agony. Its tail swung heavily at Hou Yi. That tail which had been concealed under the swamp appeared suddenly. Just the wind it lifted seemed to tear apart the viscous bog. Although his cultivation was very weak in comparison, Gan Man stepped forward. The man from the Great Shaman Tribe had long been prepared. His arms swelled frighteningly like balloons, and his blood vessels bulged as he caught the tail with both arms.

Gan Man planted his feet firmly into the ground while Shi Xuan also seized her chance to act. The girl activated her Flying Flowers Falling Leaves Sword Chant. Sword-light slashed towards the Xiushe like an autumn breeze sweeping dead leaves.

Although the girl’s cultivation was weak, this sword chant brought immense killing power, causing the Xiushe to retreat again. “Elder Sister.” Shi Xuan called out.

The Xiushe blew a fierce wind upon the group, and Chang immediately used her medical techniques to heal them.

Hou Yi gathered her Divine Energy and shot a Million Destinies arrow.

That arrow-light was practically blinding, forcing Qi Lin to shut his eyes in discomfort.

By the time everyone opened their eyes again, the Xiushe’s aura had already vanished from the swamp’s surface. Once again, a deathly silence fell upon them.

“Senior Hou Yi, did you kill the Xiushe?” Xuanxuzi was overjoyed.

“No.” Hou Yi did not hesitate to answer: “It has escaped into the swamp.”

“Ah, not even a Million Destinies Skill was able to kill this beast. Oh, my magic treasures.” Xuanxuzi’s expression contorted in grief.

Hou Yi paid him no attention: “We must seize the chance while the Xiushe is wounded to cross.”

The group did not dare delay. They activated their escape techniques to flee for the marsh’s opposite bank. At the back, Chang’s escape technique was not very fast. She was only halfway across when that Xiushe surprisingly made its moved after biding its time, its maw spread wide open.

Chang was dumbstruck, blankly staring at Qi Lin before being swallowed whole.

No one could have imagined this wounded Xiushe would still be waiting in the marsh, biding its time for another opportunity to hunt prey. This cunning was simply frightening.

Once swallowed by the Xiushe, there was practically no chance of survival. Although everyone was in grief that Chang had been eaten, they did not dare delay, and they increased their speed.

Except for one figure that flew towards the Xiushe.

“Die.” Qi Lin shouted, using the Nine Fingers Of Hell.

The Xiushe smelled the Golden Core cultivator’s aura and devoured Qi Lin without another thought.

Then, it swiftly dove into the swamp, and everything was quiet as if nothing had happened.

“Oh?”

Faraway, the young girl Lu Wu watched all this transpire from the second gate. Her brow gently furrowed.
