Chapter 267: To Give Your Heart

In the darkness, a clump of True Qi appeared above the Square Zun. This True Qi was similar to primordial chaos, swirling into an eddy. Inside, there were two lights circling back and forth like carps, neither Yin nor Yang, neither real nor fake. This was Earlier Heaven Qi.

Qi Lin was overjoyed. Now that the Earlier Heaven Qi was successfully obtained, next up was merely to refine it into the Four Symbols Square Zun, and the Ninth Cauldron would be considered complete. However, there was still not enough of this Earlier Heaven Qi. Just as Qi Lin thought this, he suddenly heard a familiar drumming sound.

This drumming was like thunder and very rhythmic. Qi Lin remained unmoved as he continued to use the formation to refine the Earlier Heaven Qi.

After a moment, the Earlier Heaven Qi above the Square Zun slowly turned from a droplet into a river.

Qi Lin pointed his finger, sending the Earlier Heaven Qi into the cauldron.

The Earlier Heaven Qi enclosed the Four Symbols Square Zun, as if a thin layer of haze had been draped over it. The Four Symbols Square Zun absorbed the Earlier Heaven Qi, and the Divine Cauldron began to vibrate intensely. Qi Lin could sense that the Four Symbols Square Zun was slowly taking form. He suppressed the excitement in his heart and was just about to imbue the Divine Cauldron with his Divine Intent.

Just at this moment, a sarcastic voice came from outside the Thunder Lake.

“Congratulations, Young Lord, congratulations. The Ninth Cauldron was completed so easily.” Emerging from void space, Nüba appeared sitting on the Dragon Throne. A grin that harbored ulterior motives hung on the corner of the girl’s lips as she stared with gleaming eyes at the Ninth Cauldron in the Thunder Lake.

“This is all thanks to your and Yinglong’s assistance. After the Ninth Cauldron is complete, the Northern Primordial’s floods can be quelled, and Little Sister Nüba will also be considered to have achieved a feat of great virtue for Yellow Emperor Xuanyuan.” Qi Lin answered calmly.

“Virtue?” Nüba’s smile was increasingly sarcastic when she heard this word.

“In Primordial World, people with your kindness are truly rare, Young Lord. Can a Fortune magic treasure even be used to suppress the floods? But…” She changed the topic: “Turn the Ninth Cauldron over to Mother for management. Back then, Mother and Emperor Yao were in contact, so it is only right that the Yellow Emperor’s name inherits the Ninth Cauldron. Young Lord would not refuse, yes?”

“Fine, wait until after I finish refining the Ninth Cauldron, and then it’ll be sent to Elder Sister Yellow Emperor.” Qi Lin smiled. He needed to stall for time for now. There was still not enough Earlier Heaven Qi at the moment, and he could only imbue his Divine Intent while he was forging.

Nüba saw through his thinking and cheerfully smiled: “Then do not blame This Palace for offending you.”

The Dragon Throne descended above him, and the girl flicked her wrist.

Ten thousand fire dragons burst out from empty space, swarming and numerous, hurtling towards QI Lin like a torrential downpour.

“Nüba, if you interrupt my forging of the Ninth Cauldron right now, then everything will fail. Do you want to let Chiyou succeed?” Qi Lin shouted.1

These words successfully stopped Nüba.

The girl looked at Qi Lin’s stern expression, she was briefly a bit apprehensive.

Qi Lin then said: “Little Sister Nüba, don’t be short-sighted. It’s better to wait until I finish gathering the Earlier Heaven Qi and we have escaped the Thunder Swamp to divide the spoils of victory. If you and I fall to further infighting, then the Daoxing Tianzun will be drawn over. And then I’m afraid your Yinglong can’t even guarantee her own life.”

Nüba grit her teeth. She was already convinced by this man.

“The Ninth Cauldron belongs to Mother. Qi Lin, This Palace shall propose to you this: if you hand the Ninth Cauldron over to Mother, This Palace is willing to marry you. With our combined might in the Northern Primordial, we can surely restore the Immemorial Royal Family’s glory in the Register Of Deities.”

Qi Lin laughed.

The girl blushed and arrogantly said: “When This Palace is so willing, will you refuse?”

Seeing the flame-like eyes of the Yellow Emperor’s daughter as well as her bashfulness brimming with indignation and insecurity, Qi Lin understood that if he were to refuse, this Nüba would definitely turn her bashfulness to fury and strike a killing blow. With the Ninth Cauldron at its critical moment now, Qi Lin did not want to fail at the last second from something so trivial, “Fine, I agree.” Thinking it over, as this pertained to the Northern Primordial’s fortune, he decided to placate her until the Ninth Cauldron’s forging was finished.

“Do not pay This Palace lip service. Since we are to be husband and wife, sign an Invested Deity Contract with This Palace.” Nüba walked towards him.

Qi Lin’s jaw dropped. He stared at this girl in a bit of astonishment. “No need for a contract. I won’t be staying in the Northern Primordial for long, and in terms of Invested Deity tribulations, Qi Qi and I are bearing too many challenged. There’s no benefit whatsoever to you signing a contract with me.”

“Besides, you will need to request permission from Mother Yellow Emperor first.” Qi Lin advised her, well-meaning. He actually was not unwilling to gain another Divine Name, but Nüba’s status was too special. As she was the daughter of the Yellow Emperor, becoming involved with her would mean too many entanglements for him.

Furthermore, Qi Lin felt that this Nüba was quite the schemer; this would not be harmonious in a harem.

Nüba snorted: “This Palace granted you this supreme honor, yet you dare complain. As expected, are you patronizing me?” Her expression was a bit indignant. The girl’s entire body emitted a red light, and the surrounding temperatures suddenly soared.

The vegetation withered, igniting sparks.

Qi Lin’s skin began to crack, and the high temperatures drilled painfully into his bones. In Chinese myth, Nüba was an ancient drought god. When she was angry, the lands would be scorched.

“If you continue to be like this, the Earlier Heaven Qi will be evaporated by you.” Qi Lin cried out in alarm.

“You dare refuse This Palace, then be evaporated together with the Earlier Heaven Qi.” Nüba coldly said.

“Why are you suddenly so interested in marrying me?” Qi Lin nearly wanted to ask her what part of her brain had short-circuited, but how could he have known that Nüba’s actions were taken with great foresight. Qi Lin’s power did not lose out to Primordial World’s Four Dukes, and even the average Divine Name was no match for him. Although Primordial World was dominated by women, powerful men still would receive a woman’s favor.

Qi Lin had two great Divine Names as well as a very close relationship with Yu The Great. If Nüba were to collaborate with him, then not only could Mother unify the Northern Primordial, this man’s Realm could even help her withstand her own Invested Deity tribulations. Nüba honestly could not find a reason to let this man go.

If she could not obtain Primordial World’s Four Dukes, was she to let this man escape?

“As long as you live, Lord Mother’s unification of the Northern Primordial will remain unstable. Only if you and I join forces can we be at ease. Otherwise…” Nüba seductively smiled and took advantage of the situation.2

Just as Qi Lin was about to answer, they suddenly heard a phoenix cry echo through the nine firmaments.

“The grand Divine Name Nüba is actually forcing a man into an affair. As expected, the Immemorial Royal Family is despicable, barbaric, and should be wiped out from Primordial World.”

Nüba was astonished.

A phoenix landed near the Thunder Lake. Its flames dispersed, and there stood a beautiful red-eyed girl wearing crystalline armor. Her long hair fluttered about, as did her tassels and ribbons, appearing beautiful as a fairy.

Qi Lin recognized her as the girl he saved the day before.

“Who are you, do not obstruct This Palace’s business.” Nüba was displeased.

“You are a Divine Name, yet you lack a Divine Name’s dignity. Your Servant cannot continue watching this.” Feng Huang’er arrived at the Thunder Lake in time to see Nüba threaten Qi Lin, but when she first spotted Qi Lin, that blurry figure from her dream manifested clearly.

Seeing that Qi Lin was in danger, the girl thereupon pursued justice without a second thought.

“Mind your own business. Can it be that you have also taken a fancy to this man?” Nüba teased: “What Divine Name are you, perhaps This Palace can share him with you.”

“Shameless!”

Feng Huang’er turned her wrist over, and the beautiful Phoenix Sword appeared in her hand. The girl unleashed her absolutely beautiful swordsmanship, floating downwards, every stroke of her sword producing bright sparks.

Nüba’s expression changed.

Spatial warps and rippling flames blocked Feng Huang’er’s attack, “Hm? Cultivator?” The Drought God was unable to sense her opponent’s Destined Divine Energy and realized this girl was a cultivator.

“A cultivator dares to face This Palace?” Nüba flicked her finger.

Space distorted, and gigantic hand-like swathe of high temperatures grabbed at Feng Huang’er. Wherever this high temperature hand passed, everything evaporated. Feng Huang’er activated the Great Wind Seal. Scorching wind howled, gusting, surprisingly stopping Nüba’s Divine Energy.

Feng Huang’er then pointed her sword and used All Birds Venerate Phoenix.

Sword-light flew forth, manifesting countless firebirds that locked on to Nüba, descending like a torrential downpour that pelted Heaven and Earth into shaking. Feng Huang’s “Ten Thousand Phoenixes Divine Mirror” was a top-notch ability that did not lose out to Destined Skills. The girl possessed the bloodline of a phoenix as well, so her power was formidable

Nüba was caught off-guard. She sat on the Dragon Throne and retreated into void space, but All Birds Venerate Phoenix did not relent in its chase. Unless she could instantly reach the ends of the world, she would not be able to shake off this ability.

Nüba shouted and spat out a heat wave.

The thousand firebirds were vaporized.

Nüba then dipped her finger into the swamp, and the place Feng Huang’er stood was rend apart. A pillar of flame reaching millions of degrees in heat erupted and immediately devoured Feng Huang’er. This was Nüba’s Ten Million Destinies.

This Ten Million Destinies attack was sufficient to reduce a Void Return cultivator to ash. Not even their Primordial Spirit could escape.

This bitched dared to fight her for a man; burning her to ash was too good for her. Nüba was thoroughly unhappy, but after the flames dispersed, she heard a phoenix cry and saw Feng Huang’er break through the column of fire. She seemed to have been reborn from the flame, surprisingly becoming even more imposing than before.

“Huh, what magic treasure is this?”

Feng Huang’er’s brows were dark, her eyes slender. She was Void Return Fire Element and was born with the bloodline of a phoenix, cultivating the Ten Thousand Phoenixes Divine Mirror from a young age. Her Nirvana Divine Armor had the effects fire rebirth. Nüba’s high temperature pillar of fire just so happened to be a mutual restraint; even if she had used Ten Million Destinies, Feng Huang’er would be able to escape.

Feng Huang’er uttered an incantation.

The Phoenix Sword sprouted wings and soared up high, manifesting several phoenix sword-spirits.

At this time, Nüba would have to be blind to not realize who she was.

“You are Phoenix Immortal Sword!”

Qi Lin quietly watched the two girls “fight over him,” using the time to refine the Earlier Heaven Qi, which was increasing in quantity. Gradually, the Square Zun showed signs of completion already.

Just a little more, and the forging would be finished.

Qi Lin worried about Qi Qi, but the only thought in his mind was to complete the Divine Cauldron as soon as possible.

Feng Huang’er and Nüba were evenly matched; the former was much more formidable than he had imagined to actually contest Nüba. Her powers and techniques were quite outstanding. Swordtip accompanied phoenix cries, and her body techniques were spry as a phoenix dancing. If not for the fact she was a cultivator, he would have believed her to be a Divine Name.

As Qi Lin forged the Ninth Cauldron, he watched the two women battle. All of a sudden, that rhythmic drumming began again. This time, it grew louder and louder, as if jolting the heavens, echoing over the Thunder Swamp.

Boom.

Boom.

Boom.

Ripple after ripple formed in the Thunder Lake.

Feng Huang’er and Nüba stopped at the same time. They heard this thunder that echoed through the nine firmaments draw ever closer. A feeling of danger filled the air.

Boom.

Accompanied by an ear-splitting boom of rolling thunder, an enormous beast burst out from the Thunder Lake. This beast was as massive as a mountain and appeared ox-like. Its body was blue, hornless, and it had only one leg. Entering or exiting water, there was always a storm that accompanied it, and its light was bright as the sun and moon, its voice like thunder. An immense, immemorial aura oozed from this beast’s body. It opened its mouth and suddenly swallowed a large portion of the Earlier Heaven Qi.

Qi Lin stared in blank shock.

  1. OK, this is author being contrived with the plot to reinforce Qi Lin’s image. There’s no way anyone is this stupid. ↩
  2. Now, this is reasoning that makes sense, but the author definitely could have written Nüba’s delivery better. ↩

  1. Okay, I unders5and Nuba’s logic but it’s REALLY dumb. Like, it’s almost as if she’s going out of her way to see Qi Lin as doing all this to 9ne up her mom, which again, I get but he’s repeated his reasoning over and over and doesn’t even plan on staying…. like, he’s doing all this to help Yu the Great bc, well let’s face it, she’s a good person who isn’t ruled by her ego. I understand this comes off as lousy to some, but Nuba has always been a schemer with an awful personality you just can’t trust.
H7ang’er straight up really does f8ght like Star General…. And actually has principles, isn’t a b85ch, and has cool skills… nice.
Is the monster that Kui thing?
