The girl’s eyes were gentler than a lake, making Qi Lin’s heart inexplicably throb. Hearing Shang Ci let out a shriek like a slaughtered pig, Qi Lin sneered.
“Wait, just wait.” Shang Ci rolled around in agony.
Upon seeing his son was injured, Shang Wei immediately jumped down onto the arena, “Hurry and carry Shang Ci away.” Clan elder Shang Qi muttered, and two doctors sympathetically looked at the young man pincushioned by crow feathers and carried him off.1 Seeing Shang Ci get turned into a porcupine filled the other disciples with glee. Who let him be so bossy and spoiled; the boy had gotten his just desserts.
The moment Shang Ci was whisked away, before Qi Lin could be declared victor, Shang Wei’s fury reached a boiling point. He activated the Li Heaven Chant, and his figure soared, “Li Heaven Chant, Heaven-burning Palm!” He attacked with the Li Heaven Chant’s most powerful technique. An enormous flaming palmprint descended from the heavens, and the sky seemed to be wrapped by the extremely hot True Qi.
Qi Lin immediately sensed that the True Qi in a range of several chi around him had been burned away. The Primordial True Qi in his body was also completely depleted.
Like son, like father!
Qi Lin’s heart was filled with resentment. Just as he was about to release the Five Elements Universe Origin Shackles, Shang Qi suddenly appeared before him wielding Ninth layer True Qi. Shang Qi’s hands seemed to draw the Supreme Ultimate, forming the design of black and white. Although the Heaven-burning Palm was a Tier Two ability, Shang Qi already had True Qi Ninth Layer Heaven Peak cultivation. His profound power, combined with the Black And White Mixed Origin Chant easily took the Heaven-burning Palm’s power into nothingness.
“Shang Wei, what is this!!”
Shang Qi shouted.
Shang Wei’s expression was unsightly to the extreme: “This wolf child’s tricks have been vicious. He hurt my boy, this is unforgivable.”
“Enough! How can you make a mockery of the banner competition. It was Ci’er’s martial learnings that were deficient! He even actually used the magic treasure Crow Feather Fan for a sneak attack in the end. If not for Yangjun’s intervention, he would have suffered the consequences for his misdeeds. You are his father. Not only did you fail to properly discipline him, you have instead confused right and wrong. From my perspective, I must discuss at length with the other elders if you can still retain your position as an elder of the Pixiu Tribe.”
“Shang Qi, are you saying that you believe this wolf child did not play any tricks? How could he have defeated Ci’er.” Shang Wei’s face paled.
“The reality is right before your eyes, do not reverse black and white. Our Pixiu Tribe is as clear as black and white! Your son’s use of a magic treasure to inflict harm must be punished. Shang Wei, that your teachings were improper also necessitate penalty. In the meantime, go look after Shang Ci.”
At this time, other elders came to advise Shang Wei.
Shang Wei hatefully glared at Qi Lin. Then, he turned and left.
“Shang Xuan is the winner of this contest. The final competition to be the banner guardian shall be between Shang Xuan and Shang Yangjun. Elders, do you have any opinions?”
Shang Qi held a formidable reputation in the tribe. In the past, he had slain a Rank Two Fierce Beast, “Fireswell Golden Eye,”2 at Gui Mountain, and he was the first cultivator in the tribe in five hundred years to have any prospect of cultivating to “Golden Core Bagua” Realm. In the tribe, the rewards and punishments he doled out were strict and impartial; he was a man true to his word. No one would call his decision into question.
The others harbored doubts as to whether or not Shang Xuan, who was unable to refine qi, had used a trick to defeat Shang Ci, but they did not dare ask before Shang Qi’s might.
“The banner competition will be in three days.” Shang Qi said. “Shang Xuan, follow me, I have things to ask you.”
Qi Lin grunted and followed behind.
At this moment, Shang Yangjun walked over, her gaze looking expectantly at Qi Lin. She extended her hand, and the Water Wave Mirror became a blue light that entered her sleeve. Shang Qi said: “Yangjun, come along as well.”
“As you command.”
“Was that really Shang Xuan? Impossible, how can he be so powerful.”
“En, did he use a magic treasure? Otherwise, there’s no way to explain how the Li Heaven Chant was unable to hurt him.”
“There must be a trick.”
The Shang Pixiu Tribe’s disciples looked at Qi Lin’s back, showing expressions of envy. They were unwilling to believe that the person who had been a cripple a few months ago would suddenly turn out so exceptional, to be capable of defeating the True Qi Sixth Layer Shang Ci.
“Brother Shang Meng, do you think he used a magic treasure?”
Shang Meng shook his head: “Using a magic treasure will always cause a magical energy fluctuation. The elders are definitely able to sense that, so he did not use a magic treasure.”
“He should have an ability even stronger than Tier Two then.”
“Whoa, he is truly lucky.”
Is it luck?
Shang Meng could distinctly sense an easygoing air about Qi Lin.
There was no luck in the wildlands, only ever strength.
…
Tribe outskirts, a forest, atop an enormous locust tree. Concealed among the leaves, a girl had watched the battle that just transpired. Growing out from her rear was a tail, which supported her like a wooden hook. The girl’s arms were folded across her chest as she scowled. “This Old Sun could destroy this entire tribe with but a finger. I truly do not understand why Big Brother would want to come back and participate in that competition or whatever. Boring, so boring.”
“Great Sage, do not worry. The Invested Deity Emissary still needs to train himself in order to be able to help Great Sage withstand the first Invested Deity tribulation.” Something palm-sized leapt out. Surprisingly, it was the white ape.
“But the way that woman looked at Big Brother makes This Old Sun very uneasy.” Qi Qi’s hand propped up her chin.
“Great Sage, worry not. She is only an ordinary cultivator. She could never be mentioned in the same sentence as the Emissary.”
“En.”
…
Pixiu Great Hall.
Qi Lin bowed.
Shang Qi sat down, his expression stiff. He stared at Qi Lin like a tiger, to see through him. “Shang Xuan, just what did you encounter in the wilderness, would you mind telling Uncle Qi.”
“Just what happened between you and Shang Ci. At the very end, I saw that you even wanted to kill him!”
Qi Lin was a bit shocked. This man’s judgment was so keen; he would need to phrase his words carefully. Shang Yangjun gently said: “Father cultivates the ‘Black And White Distinction.’ He sees through everything. Shang Xuan, don’t hide anything.” The girl was afraid Qi Lin would deceive her father and advised him.
“Your Servant does not dare hide anything from Elder.” Qi Lin had already found justification prior: “Your Servant had been schemed against by Shang Ci and nearly died. Then, he sent Shang Kui to kill me. Fortunately, it was not yet my time, for I obtained from a cave the magical energy and secret text of a Senior ‘Liangyizi.’ Only then did I come back to take revenge.”
Bang.
Shang Qi slammed his chair, turning his armrest to smithereens. An enormous aura jolted the people outside, startling them.
Shang Qi’s expressions was extremely unsightly: “This Shang Ci is truly out of control, to actually even send Shang Kui to kill you. When he returns, I will strictly punish him.”
“I am afraid he will never return.” Qi Lin calmly said.
Shang Qi was taken aback: “Hm, very well. The Pixiu Tribe will never tolerate scum who cannot distinguish between black and white.”
“Shang Ci has suffered the consequences of his actions. However, Shang Wei’s family occupies a high position in the tribe, and his relationships are very complex. I will investigate this matter clearly. Until then, Shang Xuan, you are to mind this matter no further.”
Even the fair and impartial Shang Qi had times when he had to surrender to entangled and complicated forces. Qi Lin understood that Shang Qi sought him out to inform him that he was not to make a move against Shang Ci anymore. This elder’s “Black And White Distinction” was formidable, as expected. In truth, Qi Lin had planned to nip trouble in the bud, to spare himself later. However, now that the elder had commanded this, Qi Lin had no choice but to stop.
“En. That you were able to have a lucky encounter can be considered silver lining. Cultivate it properly, I have my eye on you and Yangjun.” There were too many ancient relics that cultivators had hidden in Primordial World. Such encounters happened all over Primordial World especially when the Register Of Deities opened. Shang Ci had heard this often and asked no further.
“As you command.”

[ If not for Shangjun’s* intervention,]
–> If not for Yangjun’s* intervention,
Okay, I know I shouldn’t be surprised, but LOLI WUKONG HAS A TAIL!?
Little sister is jealous! D’AWW! I’m super curious how hers and Qi Lin’s relationship will develop… and will we be able to see anyone like Xinjie? Or maybe a near psychotic BFF with a crappy first encounter like with Siyou? Time will tell I guess.
Okay, normally I’m not the biggest fan of ppl in these fics being envious jackasses, but at least here makes a bit more sense given the context of the MC’s former occupant. And it helps that not everyone was an asshole off the bat. Unlike with Su xing ALWAYS being underestimated.
Yeah, Yangjun’s Water Wave Mirror kinda reminds me of the Mirror Alice Sacred Gear from High School DxD. It had a similar reflection ability.
… Will Qi Lin be like Su xing and have a harem of little sisters too? He doesn’t seem to have that particular quirk of trying to make damn near every girl he met his little sister. Ngl though, I actually liked that about him. honestly, but he seems much less quirky than our mad lad Su Xing.
Man, you are seriously on fire with these chapter releases!
Thanks! It’s too soon to tell how Qi Lin will develop as a protagonist, but I’m looking forward to it.
