Yu The Great and her guards dispatched the remaining two Blaze Eyes. “Hou Ji, what is happening, why are you not at the tribe looking after the people.” Yu The Great gently asked, snapping Hou Ji out from her bashful spell.
The girl seemed to awake with a start. Upon seeing Yu The Great, she was nearly moved to tears. “My king, I finally see you.”
“Are you so aggrieved after not seeing This King for a few years?” Yu The Great gently stroked her head.
The girl meekly hid behind her, not wanting outsiders to see her predicament. “My king, who are these people.”
Nezha and Qi Qi walked over at this time.
“These are friends I made in the Eastern Sea. They have come to see the floods of the Northern Primordial.” Yu The Great introduced Qi Lin, Nezha, and Qi Qi in succession. Given how special Divine Name status was, she merely introduced Qi Qi’s name without explaining that she was the Great Sage Equal Of Heaven. On the other hand, Nezha was indifferent. The girl had no reservations about her identity as the Great Deity Of Three Altars And Seas.
“King Yu, did you bring the Ocean-calming Divine Needle from the Eastern Sea?” Hou Ji hurriedly asked. “The floods now grow ever more dangerous. Forebears Mountain is nearly inhospitable.”
Yu The Great shook her head.
Hou Ji already anticipated that it would be very difficult to seize the Eastern Sea’s treasure, but her expression was still quite disappointed.
“This flood could never drown the Northern Primordial, there must be a way. Why are you here?” Yu The Great changed the topic.
Ever since Yu The Great went to the Eastern Sea to search for the Ocean-calming Divine Needle in order to control the waters, the flooding became increasingly severe. The first few years, they could still seek refuge at Forebears Mountain, but as the water level rose and rose, the Ji River was already overflowing, unable to take any more. Now, Forebears Mountain’s food stores were already very depleted. Although Hou Ji’s family had devised every kind of method they could, it was to no avail; the Northern Primordial’s myriad Terrible Beasts were also beginning to hunt in packs, like the Blaze Eyes just now.
Hou Ji had been searching for grains when she came across four Blaze Eyes.
Ordinarily, Blaze Eyes would avoid a Divine General, but now that the Northern Primordial’s flooding was too severe, even these Demon Beasts were ravenously hungry, going mad at even the scent of Divine Energy. If not for Yu The Great’s timely arrival, the consequences would have been unimaginable.
After hearing Hou Ji’s words, Qi Lin’s expression also became grim.
“Let us hurry to Forebears Mountain for now. Take these Blaze Eyes back with us.
Forebears Mountain, a sea of trees.
Rather than say it was a mountain, to Qi Lin, it seemed more like an inconceivably immense fort. The mountain was ten thousand zhang tall, with a sprawling forest of giant trees that was like a system of tubes hugging Forebears Mountain tightly. At first glance, it seemed like a gigantic tree was sprouting out of the mountain.
The dense canopy at last alleviated the rain, and Qi Lin felt much more comfortable.
Yu the Great’s tribe was known as the “Ji,”1 which originated from the Ji River, a tributary of the Eternal River. Although the Northern Primordial was vast, its tributaries endless, there were three large bodies of water that could be called truly thriving. These three bodies were the “Ji River,” the “Jiang River,” and the “Yang River.” The three bodies formed a triangle, and they each possessed the Northern Primordial’s Three Great Tribes, but ever since the floods, the Three Great Tribes had also suffered disaster, and Yu The Great’s Ji River was the most serious.
Millions of citizens had no choice but to repeatedly move in order to avoid the floods.
When Qi Lin saw the Ji’s people, he saw only every kind of exhaustion, powerlessness, and despair on their faces. It was very difficult to imagine that these were the Northern Primordial’s people, known to be Primordial World’s most ruthless and possessed of the Shaman Clan’s bloodline. Their spirits were already nearly eroded away by ten years of downpour.
After seeing Yu The Great, the tribe was thoroughly excited.
News of King Yu’s return swept through the enormous Forebears Mountain and the sea of trees.
Qi Lin followed Yu The Great to the palace on Forebears Mountain. Hou Ji immediately ordered people to prepare wine and food, though Qi Lin declined this extravagant reception. With the floods still currently unabated and the Ji Tribe’s supplies dwindling ever further, there honestly was no need for extravagance and waste.
Yu The Great cast him a grateful glance and let Hou Ji prepare a simple meal to replenish their strength.
Hou Ji was a very shy and introverted young lady. When Qi Lin asked her about the flood situation, she averted her gaze. Only when she was at Yu The Great’s side did she relax a bit. A moment later, the Ji’s other Divine General, Bo Yi, also hurried into the palace.
Compared to Hou Ji’s shyness, Bo Yi was the complete opposite in personality. Her gaze was steady, imposing, and she handled matters with extreme efficiency.
After entering the palace and giving greetings, she showed her respect to Yu The Great’s guests and then slowly asked about the flood matters.
After learning that the Ocean-calming Divine Needle was not obtained, Bo Yi was a bit disappointed. However, she immediately pulled herself together and redoubled her efforts in devising a solution.
“King Yu, you have hurried back from a great distance, a long and arduous journey. Everyone is a friend to King Yu. Why not rest well for now, and we shall host a banquet for everyone tonight.” Bo Yi said.
Hearing about another feast, Qi Lin refused again and explained his thinking.
But Bo Yi was much more insistent than Hou Ji. She was determined to host a banquet for exceedingly simple reasons. Now that the floods were increasing in severity and the Ji River was already unable to hold any longer, the people of the Ji Tribe needed a feast to boost morale, and Yu The Great’s return could even be described as the most opportune moment. Even if extravagant, this was necessary.
Her thinking was more thorough than Qi Lin’s, who could not help but be impressed. Yu The Great was also persuaded and agreed to this request.
“Hou Ji, go prepare rooms for Qi Lin and the others to rest.” Bo Yi said.
Hou Ji grunted.
“Follow me.” Hou Ji lowered her head and shuffled away.
“Hou Ji is not accustomed to being around men, Qi Lin. Please, pardon her.” Yu The Great said softly.
Qi Lin could also discern this.
…
After Qi Lin, Nezha, and Qi Qi left, Bo Yi walked back into the palace.
“Bo Yi, what is on your mind?” Yu The Great poured herself a cup of tea with gentle movements, placing a few pieces of ginger into the tea water.
“How can the king be made to pour her own tea. Allow me.” Bo Yi stepped forward to take the teapot.
“No need.” Yu The Great faintly smiled and quietly sipped her tea. The ginger team warmed her stomach, soothing her body enormously. “You know that I dislike others attending to me.”
“Speak. You sent Qi Lin away, what is it that you wish to say?” The girl saw through her thoughts.
“That the Great King brought a man back has but shaken the people. Is that Qi Lin trustworthy?” Bo Yi worriedly asked. “The world outside the Northern Primordial is dangerous. Bo Yi does not lack faith in King Yu’s judgment, but the men of Primordial World are too treacherous. Primordial World’s Four Dukes are known to all, but they will stop at nothing to seize the Destiny of a Divine General.”
Yu The Great put down her teacup and spoke with an extremely gentle tone: “If you saw his actions and deeds in the Eastern Sea, you would not ask this. He is different from Primordial World’s Four Dukes.”
“Oh.” Bo Yi felt that all men in the world were the same, but since King Yu recognized him, she would not ask further. “I am merely afraid that when she returns…Given her personality…”
“That would be wonderful.”
Yu The Great rested her cheek on her hand and sunk into captivating contemplation, her picturesque appearance charming even to women.
…
Qi Lin walked over Forebears Mountain’s wooden planks. The twisting tree branches were like natural walkways, and if a ray of quiet sunlight were to fall through the branches, that truly would be a beautiful scene. Even so, the downpour’s pelting rain droplets were very beautiful, too, like the strumming of a pipa.
Although the Ji Tribe was seeking refuge, Forebears Mountain was still operating very normally. Necessary facilities were completed, and the rest area for guests was fully stocked.
Hou Ji shuffled quite nervously.
“Look out, there’s a rock in front of you.” Qi Lin warned.
Hou Ji gasped and stopped. She looked down to discover that a rock had somehow appeared there. “This is the Great King’s rest area. People clean this place everyday, how did a rock get here.” Hou Ji was angered.
“Seeing as you’re nervous, I’ll help you.” Qi Lin smiled.
“Hmph.”
“Right, you went out to forage, is the problem resolved?” Qi Lin jogged beside her, but Hou Ji shrunk back.
“Ah, I found ‘legumes,’ and I am currently devising a way to improve the situation. Right now, the environment is too unfavorable. Rain falls nine days out of ten, and a majority of farm crops are unable to survive. Even wild herbs and fruits are submerged.” Reminded of the crops she was an expert with, Hou Ji’s eyes immediately lit up, but when she talked about planting them, her gaze was downcast again.
“”Want me to take a look. I know some things about these.” Qi Lin offered his services.
“You can farm?” Hou Ji scoffed: “Don’t you cultivators love to train? How could you like this.”
“I am Lady Yu’s friend. Don’t you believe in her judgment.” Qi Lin said.
“You dare address the Great King in such a manner…” Hou Ji’s wide-eyed appearance was particularly cute.
“Let me take a look, maybe I can help you.”
Hou Ji rolled her eyes, not believing Qi Lin’s words at all. After a while of walking, they reached a room made from a tree hollow. “There are three rooms here, and it will be the resting area for you. Take a good break. Tonight, a banquet will be held at the center of Forebears Mountain.”
“Right, you had best not act too close with King Yu.” Hou Ji suddenly recalled something and turned to warned Qi Lin. “If she were to know of this, you will suffer.”
“She?”
Qi Lin was puzzled.
Hou Ji did not explain. She turned and descended the mountain.
“Someday, you will definitely let me see your legumes. Farming is my talent.” Qi Lin was unwilling to give up and shouted, not caring if Hou Ji heard or not.
When he turned around, he noticed Qi Qi and Nezha were both staring at him.
“Qi Lin, you truly are deranged. You have ELder Sister Changxi, but you still go around flirting with young girls.” Little Nezha lectured him in a grown-up tone.
“I just wanted to do something good. Don’t you see how severe the flooding is here.” QI Lin shook his head. Hou Ji’s bashfulness was indeed very cute, but Primordial World was not suitable for romance.
“Qi Qi, do you believe him?” Nezha asked.
Qi QI did not hesitate to shake her head.
“Forget it, let’s go rest for now. We’re exhausted from days of travel.”
“Hmph, don’t think of seducing me.” Little Nezha covered her chest with her hands: “I am going to take a bath, don’t peep.”
“You’re not even grown, why would I look at you.” Qi Lin rolled his eyes.
“Master said that This Nezha is naturally beautiful and adorable.” Nezha proudly said.
“Yes, those are words for a child.”
“Then what would you say for a grown woman?” Nezha giggled.
Qi Lin uttered two pure words.
“Big chest!”
“Hee, hee. Qi Qi, your big brother has renounced you. You can’t follow a man like this, come with me to the Eastern Province’s Golden Light Cave in the Qianyuan Mountains.” Little Nezha turned her gaze to the similarly flat-chested QI Qi.
Fuck, this little Nezha was quite cunning.
Qi Lin was impressed and said: “You can’t break the bond between us siblings, right, little sister.”
“Big Brother.” Qi Qi lazily stretched herself.
“Hm?”
“I want to take a bath, help Me.”
“Okay.”
