Ji River

The floodwaters surged, submerging half the mountain.

Qi Lin Bo Yi, Hou Ji, Qi Qi, and Nezha hovered in the air. The great wilderness was just like a giant swamp. Yu The Great’s prior method to control the flood was to dam the rivers, to contain the floodwaters, but after several years, the flooding intensified, and the dam was proven to be completely useless. Then, Yu The Great thought to dredge the rivers and divert the flow of the Eternal River into the depths of the Northern Sea, but the endless Eight Desolates Mountain were the greatest obstacle to dredging the rivers. Even if a High Ancient Realm Divine Name were to exhaust their Divine Energy, they could not possibly carve open a path through Eight Desolates Mountain.

Everyone knew that the Eternal River and the Eight Desolates encompassed the area.

Eight Desolates Mountain and the Northern Primordial were one and the same. To cut open Eight Desolates Mountain truly required Immemorial or even Antiquity Divine Energy. Yu The Great then devised a way to draw the waters. The Eastern Sea’s Ocean-calming Divine Needle was said to be a treasure that could control water, that it was able to pin water from rivers, lakes and even the seven seas. Yu The Great wanted to borrow the Eastern Sea Dragon Palace’s Ruyi Jingu Bang to see whether or not it could cut open a channel for the dredging.

Qi Qi brought out the Ruyi Jingu Bang. By her will, the Jingu Bang immediately became long and extended into the flood.

Qi Qi used her Divine Energy, and the Jingu Bang glowed with crimson light. The flood waters surged and crashed, colliding with the mountains. Then, Qi Qi warped into the air, her body nimble as a swallow. She flew forward, attempting to make that flood changed direction together with the Divine Energy of the Jingu Bang.

At first, the flooded marsh showed signs of calming, but very quickly, the floodwaters intensified further, pouncing forth like a giant, heaven-overflowing beast.

One mountain after another was completely devoured.

When they saw this, the expressions of the Ji tribe’s people slightly changed. Yu The Great appeared very grave.

“No can do, this is no ordinary flood. My Jingu Bang is unable to move it.” Qi Qi pursed her lips.

“Even Great Sage Sun’s Ocean-calming Divine Needle is unable to resolve this flood?” Yu The Great softly sighed.

“This Old Sun will try again.”

Qi Qi saw their disappointment and took up the Jingu Bang for another attempt.

Qi Lin gazed at the boundless marsh. The mountains and rivers were devoured, a lamentable sight.

“Could it be that the heavenly way truly wants to annihilate the people of the Northern primordial?” Yu The Great was disappointed and frustrated. The girl’s figure was calm, yet her expression was filled with endless sorrow. Rain landed on her face, collecting like sparkling water droplets on a lotus leaf.

A bird cried in the sky at this time. This bird was strange as well. It hovered in the air and quietly watched the group’s movements.

“King Yu, a lihu has been born. It appears we can only construct irrigation to control the floods.” Bo Yi said.

The lihu was a type of spirit bird of the Northern Primordial. It was said that wherever this bird appeared, that county would have diverse and varied waterworks. Now that the flood was upon them, they could only use irrigation to manage the floods.

Qi Lin remembered that the Yu the Great of myth controlled the flood by partitioning China into nine provinces based on the geographical situation of the mountains and rivers. His method of flood control was to manage all of China’s mountains and rivers by treating them as a single whole. He first managed the land of the nine provinces, dredging and leveling where necessary, converting a large portion of the land into fertile grounds. Then, he managed the mountains. He wanted to dredge waterways such that water could flow smoothly downwards without blockage. After managing the mountain roads, he began to unblock the waterways, finally quelling the floods.

Although Primordial World was somewhat different, these ideas could be used. Qi Lin informed Yu The Great of this thoughts.

“Although the Eight Desolates are not pretty, we can adapt to local circumstances. If we can also make the Yellow Emperor and Chiyou assist, perhaps we can control the floods.” Qi Lin said.

“The Yellow Emperor? Do you refer to Xuanyuan?” Yu The Great grunted.

“Ah, yes.” Qi Lin awkwardly smiled. He had unwittingly referred to Xuanyuan as the Yellow Emperor. In this era, the current Xuanyuan was a Divine Name who had only just been born. Although naturally talented and showered with the heavenly way’s favor, she had not yet reached Primal Chaos Five Emperors level.

“Do not make arbitrary judgments. As if that arrogant Xuanyuan could be mentioned in the same sentence as Northern Heavenly Emperor Yao.” Bo Yi disdainfully criticized.

“However, His Distinguished Self Qi Lin’s proposal aligns with my ideas. However, even if we were to dredge out a waterway through the Eight Desolates, even if I exhausted all strength in my life, this is impossible to achieve.”

Qi Lin understood her meaning. Previously, Yu The Great, Bo Yi, and Hou Ji had thought to dredge the Eight Desolates. Dredging waterways was a monumental project, but now that they had the Ocean-calming Divine Needle in addition to Qi Qi and his aid, perhaps this project could be realized.

“I can help you.” Qi Lin slightly grinned.

A flicker of delight flashed through Yu The Great’s eyes. The woman hesitantly said: “But this project is enormous. Perhaps…”

“Qi Qi and I have nothing else to do for the time being. I just so happen to understand some geography of mountains and rivers. I also learned geomancy, and I can use it to dredge the Eight Desolates. So long as we survey the land first and slowly organize it, we can dredge the floods in a year or two.” Qi Lin pondered.

“If Your Distinguished Self Qi Lin is willing to help Me control the floods, then I truly would be endlessly grateful.” Having seen for the first time someone willing to work with her to control the floods, Yu The Great was a bit emotional.

“Calling me Distinguished Self is too unfamiliar. How about we become sworn siblings instead…I’ll call you little sister.” Qi Lin fake coughed, serious.

Bo Yi was stunned while Hou Ji’s eyes bulged.

“You actually call our King Yu ‘little sister…'” This man was honestly too deplorable. Even Hou Ji wanted to use her ‘Bountiful Harvest’ to flog him.

“Wenming is very grateful to Elder Brother.” Yu The Great slightly bowed, an indescribably graceful pose.

Only then did Qi Lin realize that Yu The Great’s True Name was “Si Wenming.”

“King Yu, this is too rash.” Bo Yi wanted to stop her.

Yu The Great Si Wenming gazed at the mountains of the Northern Primordial, which sank into the depths of the swamp. She sighed: “When our home is no more, I am a king in name only. That we can receive help today, to call him ‘Elder Brother’ is only natural.”

Bo Yi said no more.

Seeing her so sincere, Qi Lin could not help but be a bit moved. “Little Sister Wenming, be at ease. I will definitely do my utmost.”

Afterwards, Qi Lin and the rest surveyed the topography around the Ji River and the flow of the water, hoping to find the fastest waterway to dredge the flood.

On this day, Qi Lin was surveying the riverside terrain by himself. Qi Qi and Nezha were helping Yu The Great measure the depth, using the Jingu Bang to carve the waterway.

Geomancy was also known as fengshui, and Guo Pu’s “Classic Of Burial” said thus: “Qi follows the wind and scatters but stops at the edge of water. Gather it to prevent dispersal, guide its flow to stillness. This is fengshui.” Regardless, geomancy made use of qi, and it was an extremely effective method to survey the land. Back then, geomancy arts were all the rage in the Immemorial Royal Family, but it was a pity that Primordial World’s understanding of geomancy was incomplete.

“An inch higher of water is a mountain. An inch lower of earth, and the river circles back. A winding stream is thus the form of a winding mountain, winding like a True Dragon in the palm.”

Qi Lin chanted as he walked on the mountain, noticing that this flood was a bit strange. The Northern Primordial had preserved the oldest fengshui leylines, the power of which flowed smoothly and without backflow. The terrain was lively and winding, the sand and water mixing continuously without beginning or end.

Floods should not appear with “Dragon Reincarnation” fengshui like this. Heaven had its way, Earth had its laws, and geomancy was about reading Heaven and Earth. In Primordial World, this was even less likely to be wrong.

“Could someone have done this deliberately?” Qi Lin did not think this was very realistic unless they were on the level of a saint. Otherwise, other Divine Names would not have such formidable Divine Energy capable of submerging the Northern Primordial.

As he pondered on how to dredge a waterway, he suddenly heard a weak bird cry from the surface of the water.

Qi Lin looked over. On the turbulent waters, a pale, ashen peacock was perched on a piece of driftwood. A monstrous and malevolent crow, black as smoke, circled around above the peacock, stretching out its long beak as if to eat it.

The rapids carried the log, and at the end was a hundred zhang drop down a waterfall.

That ashen peacock chirped and cried, its voice quiet pitiful.

Qi Lin saw its pitiful state and used the Heavenly Vertical Earthly Horizontal Escape. His toes touched the water. He wanted to reach out his hand and save the peacock, but that crow of black smoke was suddenly like a demon and fiercely pecked Qi Lin.

Qi Lin attacked with the Nine Fingers Of Hell. That black crow was completely unaffected and instead became even more ferocious, unleashing plumes of black qi.

This black crow was more powerful than Qi Lin thought, so he circulated his magical energy and attacked.

The black crow incessantly entangled him, as if fighting over prey as it frantically attacked Qi Lin, not wanting him to approach that injured peacock. Qi Lin was a bit irritated. He then unleashed the Blood Transformation Divine Blade and slashed.

Blood-like saber-light hacked into the black crow.

That black crow screeched. The black smoke covering its body dispersed, and it fell into the water, dead.

Qi Lin ignored it and finally hugged the peacock, turning and returning to the shore.

The peacock struggled briefly, as if it was intelligent, letting out a melodious chirp that was like a young woman’s voice. Its ethereal, gem-like eyes stared at Qi Lin. Seeing that its injuries were very severe, Qi Lin flipped open the Green Satchel Book, and a green light shone upon its body, helping mend her wounds.

But QI Lin noticed that the Green Satchel Book’s treasure-light apparently did not have a very noticeable effect on the peacock’s injuries, for this bird still remained on death’s door.

Qi Lin gasped. He reached under the peacock’s wings with his hand, but this dying peacock suddenly became very violent. It flapped its wings endlessly and struggled, warding off the offending hand.

“Stop moving, I’m helping check your injuries.”

The gray peacock saw that its struggle was hopeless and hung its neck in despair, using its wings to cover its head. QI Lin felt around her body and finally found a nail-like object near her cloaca. This nail was extremely tiny, appearing almost like a speck of dust to the naked eye. Fortunately, Qi Lin’s body contained the “heart of the Holy Beast Qilin,” and he immediately sensed that this nail was a bit unique.

This nail was not very easily extracted. Circulating Four Yins Four Yangs, Qi Lin formed a hand seal and used the Dual Modes Seal: Life And Death to finally remove the nail.

After he pulled out this nail, a powerful energy suddenly flooded out from that tiny cloaca, almost like a flood released from a dam, and it quickly washed over Qi Lin. Qi Lin completely did not expect this feeble peacock’s body would contain such immense power. His Four Yins Four Yangs body was knocked down to the ground without any resistance. Then, he felt Heaven and Earth spin, as if his Divine Energy was being sucked into the peacock’s body.

“Cough, what the hell is this.” Qi Lin was astonished. His consciousness was suddenly hazy, and he was unable to muster his strength.

This is bad.

In this haze, Qi Lin sensed the ashen scene before him suddenly fill with multiple colors.

Green, yellow, red, black and white, all particularly beautiful.
