Chapter 240: A Thought Through The Ages

Oh, just leave everything to me while you all relax, Qi Lin thought to himself. However, this time, he truly had no options.

The arrangement of the circular hall appeared very normal. The eight large cauldrons all were protected by forbiddances, and in terms of mechanisms, forbiddances were the best kind. No matter how skilled a person was, it was meaningless if they were unable to dispel the forbiddance.

But what Qi Lin still had not figured out at the moment was if Emperor Yao truly left these behind for her successor, then how would she go about obtaining them?

Unless her successor’s Realm had reached Immemorial Realm or higher, then dispelling the eight cauldrons’ forbiddances was very challenging. If this was not the case, how would a mere High Ancient Divine Realm go about this?

Qi Lin paced back and forth in the circular hall, leaving everyone astonished.

The circular hall’s pressure was already very strong, but he ignored it and continued to stroll as if in a park. Seeing Qi Lin was caught in vexation, Nüba and Gongyang Tu had no choice but to continue dispelling the forbiddances using their own methods.

The eight Divine Cauldrons were arranged very neatly. Qi Lin pondered for a long time. In the end, he against stood before the statue of Emperor Yao and quietly stared at this beautiful sculpture.

Emperor Yao’s expression was serene and dignified, her eyes filled with compassion for humanity. In one palm, she held a tray, and the other was extended towards him, as if beckoning him forth. There was a bold feeling as if she was inviting him to rule the world with her. Qi Lin could not help but concede that Yao was indeed a divine emperor to be sung of through the ages. Just the story of the statue alone was already enough to make a person linger and enjoy the sights.

“Just what kind of clue would you leave behind for your successor?”

Qi Lin stopped and pondered.

Slowly, the longer he looked at this statue, the more it seemed that Emperor Yao came to life, and the more that extended hand became increasingly illusory. Could it be? Qi Lin could not help but reach out to grasp her hand. The golden idol’s hand felt full of a thousand years of cold. With but a touch, it made him shiver, as if his soul was about to be stripped away.

“Dual Modes Yin And Yang, Dual Modes Cold And Heat, Dual Modes Water And Fire.”

Qi Lin endured this chill and used the Dual Modes Seal.

Water and fire, cold and heat, Yin and Yang all surged from low to high. Qi Lin swapped the statue’s ice-cold, and slowly, following his grasp, this hand began to warm as the cold receded.

When Fenghou saw Qi Lin surprisingly blaspheme the Emperor Yao statue, she was displeased. Just as she was about to berate him, Nüba stopped her.

“Your Highness, this Qilin is a bit unruly. How can a man profane Emperor Yao’s statue like this.” There was a bit of hostility in Fenghou’s heart. She had always revered Emperor Yao. Ever since she came to Mount Tu, she wanted even more to keep Emperor Yao’s secret out of the clutches of outsiders. Seeing Qi Lin actually hold the statue’s hand, she itched to tear this man to pieces.

Nüba also felt this was strange. In her impression, Qi Lin should not be such a frivolous person. “Perhaps he has deduced some kind of mystery. Leave him be. Besides, Zhijing, do you truly feel you can kill him?”

Nüba asked back, bantering.

Fenghou was taken aback, and her expression darkened.

“Qi Lin actually has the Blood Transformation Divine Blade, no wonder he was able to slay the Fuzhu. He also has Great Sage Equal Of Heaven Sun Wukong and Nezha’s aid, and his wife is perhaps also an unfathomable Divine Name…Even if you and I joined forces, we may not prevail over this kind of strength.” Nüba carefully listed things out. In her heart, she was endlessly surprised. No wonder Qi Lin dared to enter Mount Tu; his current power was sufficient to make him a hegemon among the Northern Primordial’s tribes.

Qi Lin thus held Emperor Yao’s hand. As time passed, the warmth in his hand spread to the statue’s, and even the statue’s arm began to warm. The sculpture seemed to come to life, and her eyes glowed.

Qi Lin was taken aback. He seemed to have seen the expression of the Emperor Yao statue change.

Without warning, the world went dark. Qi Qi, Nezha, Nüba, Gongyang Tu and the others all vanished. The palace and Divine Cauldrons also faded, leaving behind only a mental space.

Thought?

Qi Lin immediately realized he had entered the statue’s mind. In this moment, Qi Lin understood that it turned out Emperor Yao had focused a lingering thought into the statue to control the entire palace’s arrays and magic treasures.

As expected, this statue was the key.

In the space before him, that statue rose up. Golden clothes fell away layer by layer, revealing glossy, snow-white skin and a graceful, slender figure, beauty that could topple a city. An absolutely gorgeous woman appeared in front of Qi Lin.

That woman exuded divine might, and embedded in her forehead was a gem like a divine crown.

She was none other than the late “Yao.”

Qi Lin was dumbstruck.

The remnant intent of Emperor Yao opened her eyes. After seeing the newcomer was a man, she asked: “Thou art not ‘Yao.’ Who art thou.” Her tone was very soft, still compassionate, but her words were filled with killing intent.

“Your Servant is Qi Lin. Floods plague the Northern Primordial and have submerged the Eight Desolates. Your Servant has specifically come in search of Emperor Yao’s Divine Cauldrons to suppress the Flood Formation and help save the people.” Qi Lin deferentially answered.

But the remnant intent of Emperor Yao ignored him, “Thou art not the new Yao. Thou should not have appeared in this place.”

Emperor Yao chanted.

The mental space instantly manifested an enormous vortex that threatened to suck Qi Lin in. This spirit vortex could grind apart thought itself, and a cultivator’s Primordial Spirit would be destroyed, leaving them a living corpse.

Qi Lin wielded all of his magical energy. He used the Dual Modes Life And Death to resist this soul vortex.

Emperor Yao pointed her finger.

A formless divine sword manifested out of nothingness and sliced at him.

Qi Lin brought out the Meteoric Iron Divine Staff and blocked the strike. He said again: “Your Majesty, quell your fury. Only the Divine Cauldrons can control the Northern Primordial’s floods. Can it be Your Majesty is unwilling to rescue the people from this crisis?”

Emperor Yao did not answer, her kindly appearance and divine might inexhaustible.

Thereupon, more than a dozen soul vortices appeared and approached from every direction. In an instant, Qi Lin sensed felt like he was about to be drawn and quartered by several dozen horses, and he was surprisingly unable to muster his power.

Oh, shit.

Qi Lin’s expression changed. Even if this was a remnant intent from ten thousand years ago, Emperor Yao’s power still far exceeded his imagination.

Divine palace, circular hall.

Everyone was still pondering a way to dispel the forbiddance on the Divine Cauldrons. Gongyang Tu sat on a Divine Cauldron and looked left and right, searching for even the smallest clue. The eight Divine Cauldrons were arranged in a formation. Then, presumably there was something used to control and function as the array eye. Only then could the Divine Cauldrons be activated and maintained.

Gongyang Tu did not want Qi Lin to stand out any more. If he could find the array eye, then he could finally vent his frustrations.

Yet Gongyang Tu was unable to find the faintest clue while a problem arose on Qi Lin’s side.

“Brother, what’s wrong?” Qi Qi tugged on Qi Lin’s arm.

Everyone glanced over to find Qi Lin hovering in midair, holding the statue’s hand. He seemed to have suddenly frozen stiff, his entire person becoming rigid. From head to toe, he was like a statue himself. They could not even see him breathe at all.

Qi Qi was a bit worried. She was unable to even sense the contract between them. The girl tried with all her might to pull her big brother away from the statue, but the pair gripped each other so tightly they may as well have been one. No matter how the Great Sage Equal Of Heaven used her Divine Energy, she was unable to budge him.

Changxi and Nezha also came over to assist, but as before, there was no effect.

“What is happening here?” Nüba walked over and asked curiously.

“He should not have offended Emperor Yao.” Fenghou coldly said.

Hearing her words, flames shot out of Qi Qi’s eyes, for she wanted to pulverize her to death. Fenghou hopped back several paces in fright.

“Has Qi Lin’s Primordial Spirit left his body?” Nüba asked.

Gongyang Tu scrutinized the statue and suddenly understood, “Of course.”

“Of course, what, Young Lord Gongyang??” Nüba asked.

“This statue is the array eye that controls the Divine Cauldrons.” Gongyang indicated.

The eight Divine Cauldrons were arranged with the statue of Emperor Yao in the center. Upon closer examination, the bricks and totems spread along the ground with a regular pattern towards it, linking them together.

“He probably has been trapped by the statue’s forbiddance.” Gongyang Tu was a bit gleeful at Qi Lin’s trouble. To be able to control the eight Divine Cauldrons as an array eye, this statue must contain a powerful secret within. This was perfect, and Qi Lin’s sacrifice was much appreciated.

Nüba also understood.

“Meaning if we destroy the statue, we can dispel the forbiddance?”

“Correct. So long as the statue is uprooted, the array will dispel on its own.” Gongyang Tu showed a pleased expression. This time, he had seized the spotlight from in front of Qi Lin and figured out the secret behind the mechanism.

“Pity your Emissary did not realize this. He grabbed the statue’s hand and was thus trapped by the statue’s forbiddance.” Gongyang Tu said to Qi Qi.

When Qi Qi heard his words, she immediately grabbed the Jingu Bang and swung it at the statue.

The Ruyi Jingu Bang emitted golden light, and Qi Qi’s divine might roared like thunder. Her attack was ear-splitting, jolting the entire circular hall with a shuddering earthquake. Fenghou wanted to stop her, but her words were pushed back into her throat by the Jingu Bang’s divine might, nearly making her vomit blood.

This attack forced even Changxi and Nezha back.

Everyone was stunned. Chaos Rank Divine Energy.

“Qi Qi, calm down, you might injure Lord Husband.” Changxi hastily warned.

Only then did Qi Qi suppress her Divine Energy as she recalled that Qi Lin was still connected to the statue.

But the statue surprisingly did not move in the slightest from the Chaos Rank Divine Energy. A defensive barrier had been raised.

As Gongyang Tu said, this statue also had a barrier. Only by breaking the barrier could the statue be removed and the array dispelled.

“Zhijing, let us hurry and destroy the statue.” Nüba also immediately issued the order. The girl pointed her finger, and ten thousand degrees of heat burned the statue’s surroundings red, slowly melting the barrier away.

Fenghou could not bring herself to destroy Emperor Yao’s statue, but by then, she could not easily stop them.

Everyone seemed to have gone mad, for they attacked the statue with every kind of ability. Changxi also used all her might to shield Qi Lin from the attacks’ effects.

Destroy the statue to obtain the Divine Cauldrons.

This thought was firmly rooted in everyone’s minds.

Blasted indiscriminately by everyone’s powers, the statue tottered on the edge of collapse, and the eyes of the Emperor Yao statue increasingly dimmed.

Fenghou Zhijing was a distance away on her knees, pressing her head against the ground, begging forgiveness.

Lingmeng the peacock was currently preening itself on a railing in the circular hall. As everyone attacked the statue’s forbiddance, Lingmeng shook its tail feathers, and a white feather flew out, piercing Qi Lin’s Niwan Palace. Then, it vanished like a stone into the sea.

In Qi Lin’s mind.

Qi Lin was forced to the point of suffocation by Emperor Yao’s seven to eight soul vortices, and this remnant thought of Emperor Yao ignored his pleas. However, this was only natural. This thought’s purpose was to protect the divine palace and converse with successors who bore the name “Yao.” If she bore “Yao,” then she would obtain the thought’s acknowledgement, but the person who came was an unwelcome guest. The remnant thought of Emperor Yao’s only task then was to thoroughly destroy the enemy.

Qi Lin’s Dual Modes Fortune Body and Four Yins Four Yangs strength were nearly at their limit against the multitude of soul vortices. His thoughts were ground apart one after another by the eddies, torn to shreds with unbearable pain.

“Thou art destroyed.”

Yao apathetically looked on.

  1. I mean, tbf, this thought remnant thing was like a video rec9rding m9re than a gh9st so… reasoning with it seemed pointless…

    Still had to try tho.
Man, LIngmeng better show up soon.
Also, I’m surprised Nuba was so quick to trash the statue, ngl.

    1. Well, the thought should have a little bit more sentience than a recording, but Qi Lin is still an idiot for trying to explain the present situation to something akin to lingering intent. Just because Emperor Yao was known for her compassion doesn’t mean that this offshoot shares those characteristics, especially for someone that she, funnily enough, has correctly identified to be an unwanted intruder.

And Nüba’s decisiveness makes sense. She is fully aware that Qi Lin is the person most capable of navigating this labyrinth, and she isn’t so foolish as to let anything bad befall him just yet. If she’s going to attempt something, it will only be when they’re safely outside.
