The woods were dark, the vegetation reaching up past the knee.
Qi Lin cautiously walked along while Qi Qi walked beside him like an adorable doll. She was like a completely different person compared to the one that cruelly crushed a man’s head under her foot a few days ago.
The white ape was ahead of them, clearing the path. Its large body was like a bulldozer,1 smashing the trees blocking their way. This was the nameless mountain’s innermost reaches. People had never set foot in this danger zone, which was why the mountain did not have a name. The air itself exuded an aura of danger. Qi Lin had already begun to cultivate Primordial True Qi. Although he was only “Qi Refinement First Deva,” he was also able to sense the danger coming from everywhere.
Fortunately, the white ape was present. It was the local hegemon, and it stood proud and tall. Those ancient airs of danger shrunk back a fair bit.
After walking for an indeterminate amount of time, the dense forest suddenly gave way to a clearing. A ray of wonderful light sprinkled by, as if stabbing through. Qi Lin was blinded and blinked his eyes. Before him was a thousand ren tall sheer cliff, as if a sword had descended from the heavens and carved a trench out of the mountain, genuinely cleaving the mountain to form a valley, a spectacular sight. The cliff was very precipitous, sleek as a mirror. At first glance, he was actually unable to see the top. This sword-like cliff made Qi Lin feel miniscule.
“We have arrived.” The white ape said.
“That Yin Yang Fortune Body cave you found is at the top of this?” Qi Lin tilted his upwards and took a deep breath. “So high.”
He would need to at least learn riding sword flight in order to surmount this cliff.
“Up you go.” Sun Wukong’s expression suddenly turned sinister. She grabbed Qi Lin and bounded up the cliff. She was surprisingly sure-footed, quickly jumping up the cliff face.
The wind roared in Qi Lin’s ears as the landscape streaked by. He gasped, the formidable force practically threatening to blow him down.
The white ape was close behind, nimbly clambering up the cliff.
After a while, all of a sudden, Qi Lin felt his perpendicular relevel. Looking around, Qi Qi had already entered a cave in the cliff. The chamber was about seven to eight chi deep, not very large. The surroundings had sure signs this was artificial. The cave itself was only about half a person tall, and one gander revealed all of it. A cross-legged skeleton sat within.
To say it was a skeleton would perhaps be inaccurate because that body had an intact humanoid shape, but it was not mummified. That the bones could maintain human shape was mainly due to the iron garments it wore.
Qi Qi stood far outside the cave, her eyes scanning around.
This was the place that the white ape found that Yin Yang Fortune Body in?
However, since the cave was so unreachable and hidden in a cliff, clearly this was no ordinary person. Qi Lin also realized that countless eccentrics and ascetics cultivated in uncivilized places. They often secluded themselves in their abodes up until they broke through a bottleneck or died. Evidently, the cultivator in front of him was unfortunately the latter.
“This is an ancient cultivator from antiquity. This cave previously had a forbiddance, and no one came here. This Old Ape was finally able to break through after attaining the Way. There are some items inside that perhaps may be of some help to you.” The white ape glanced at the girl. “This Old Ape knew that one day, the Great King would surely be born.”
Sun Wukong harrumphed.
Qi Lin quietly walked over.
Looking over this body, the corpse’s iron clothes were already rusted. With a touch of the finger, the iron crumbled like sand, and a strange skeleton was revealed. To elaborate on this skeleton’s oddity, it was the color of the exposed bones that left Qi Lin astonished. They were a white color that was filled with Yin as well as an exotic red color. Furthermore, there two horns protruding from the skull, one black, the other white.
Qi Lin noticed five shackle-like objects on the body’s wrists and ankles. After suffering untold number of years of wind, the iron had disintegrated, yet these fetters were still shiny as new. They were filled with spiritual power. Qi Lin poured in True Qi, and the dust on the shackles blew away. The shackles emitted a bright light; astonishingly, these were a magical treasure.
Qi Lin took another look at the walls around the cave. These were the remnants of a cultivator named Liangyizi.2 He had reached his absolute limit and was powerless to go further. The characters he left etched were clear and lively, every one fierce and vivid, gushing like a stream, majestic as a rainbow. From just a glance, Qi Lin felt ice and fire in his body, something incomparably unbearable. If not for the Yin Yang Qi he already adapted a little while before, just looking at these characters would perhaps have made him give up the ghost.
So incredible.
For even the words this adept wrote to bear such power, Qi Lin’s heart shuddered, and his expression became focused. He looked at each character on the wall.
Qi Lin looked for the whole night without a wink of sleep.
Qi Lin at last completely comprehended that short passage on the wall before the east began to light up.
As it turned out, this wall recorded a body refinement cultivation method known as the “Nine Yins Nine Yangs Fortune Heaven.” According to the record, this cultivation method refined wordly Yin and Yang Qi in the body. Yang resided on the outside, its heavenly might like a mountain, its domineering force spreading in all directions. Yin resided within, allowing for a clever mind, to see things clearly.
Each time “one Yin and one Yang” were tempered in the body, his strength, magical energy, and thoughts would become one level stronger compared to the average cultivator. For instance, if the ordinary cultivator had First Deva Primordial True Qi, they were able to sense the breaths within a ten meter range. If they cultivated the One Yin One Yang, then they were able to wield the power of Second Deva Primordial True Qi and sense the slightest movements within twenty meters.
The more devas cultivated, brute force, magical energy, and perception would improve even more drastically. And seeing as how the Nine Yins Nine Yangs Fortune Heaven had nine levels in total, if he could cultivate to “Nine Yins Nine Yangs,” overturning mountains and seas and devouring the sun and moon were nothing out of the ordinary. It was a pity that the technique recorded on the wall was not complete but a mere remnant. However, just that average Six Yins Six Yangs level was sufficient to make an ordinary cultivator spend several millennia to attain it.
This cultivator recorded some of his personal insights on the other side of the wall. Those five shackles on his body were called “Universe Origin Five Elements Shackles,”3 and they were specially used to cultivate the Nine Yins and Nine Yangs. Cultivators did not possess indestructible corporeal bodies like Divine Names did. With each Yin and Yang cultivated, strength would increase. At Three Yins Three Yangs, that kind of concentrated Yin Yang power was honestly too powerful, and cultivators often were unbale to bear it. The “Universe Origin Five Elements Shackles” possessed formidable strength and were capable of suppressing that destructive power on the basis of the Star Cultivator’s innate strength. Under continuous suppressing, the cultivator was able to slowly acclimate and adapt. Afterwards, they could smoothly break through to the next level.
This method could be described as wonderful.
Cultivating the Nine Yins Nine Yangs required, first of all, to gather Yin and Yang qi into the body. This cultivator did not offer a comprehensive method, but Qi Lin actually was able to more or less gather Yin and Yang into his body. This was the perfect chance to try.
Cultivating the Nine Yins Nine Yangs was extremely dangerous. Even this powerful cultivator died here, in the end. However, Qi Lin did not shy away. No success in the world was attained without hard work and suffering. Cultivation was no different.
Other cultivators perhaps were fond of working steadily, slowly but surely. However, Qi Lin would need to overflow with willpower in the future…The man who protects Sun Wukong…would necessarily walk a dangerous path.
Other than these, there was also a “Dual Modes Seal” ability that was specially paired for the Nine Yins and Nine Yangs and was also of formidable might.
Qi Lin also found a double-colored ring on this cultivator’s finger. The ring was shaped like two interlocking loops, implicitly conforming to the mysteries of the dual modes. This ring additionally had a forbiddance. Only those that practiced to Four Yins Four Yangs were able to open it.
“The wise man is Qian, the foolish one is Kun. Gaze up at radiant splendor, look down at luxuriant undergrowth. High and low conform with Heaven and Earth. Yin and Yang is the way of Heaven and Earth. This ‘Dual Modes Seal’ Soul Technique has its own destined person, but to be able to fully grasp the hidden mystery of Divine Names, that will achieve my cherished wish – Liangyizi.”
The last sentence on the wall contained the ancient cultivator’s last regret and aspiration. Qi Lin inwardly felt sympathetic and took on the cultivator’s legacy. The cultivator could be considered his teacher, and he carefully buried the cultivator’s body, properly offering his respects.
Qi Lin examined the Universe Origin Five Elements Shackles in his hands. This treasure was already ownerless. The consciousness of the Divine Treasure already vanished with the passage of time. Qi Lin used his blood and thoughts to refine it. This way, he could use it more conveniently in the future.
The Universe Origin Five Elements Shackles looked like ordinary bands. Altogether, there were five, one each in a color of green, blue, red, yellow, or gold. Their colorations all differed, but their shapes were very uniform, completely unlike a powerful magic treasure. However, the moment he put them on his wrists, ankles, and neck, Qi Lin finally realized the magnitude of his mistake.
Heavy. They really were too fucking heavy.
Qi Lin moved his intent, making the Universe Origin Five Elements Shackles adjust their restraining power to his level. Even at its weakest, the weight still left Qi Lin a bit out of breath.
The Universe Origin Five Elements Shackles were able to bind the Five Elements and were capable of producing the might of the Five Elements. Qi Lin’s cultivation was barely able to grasp the most basic restraint. Even so, these Five Elements Shackles were about to break his back.
“Are you alright?” The Great Sage Equal Of Heaven’s eyes widened, and she seriously asked.
Let alone raising a finger, just uttering a word was very difficult.
This type of strain was honestly too horrifying. Qi Lin nearly wanted to give up, but upon thinking of Qi Qi’s lonely figure under the moonlight, a brotherly desire to protect her suddenly burst forth from his body.
Qi Lin grit his teeth. He slowly moved his body, persisting, using enormous amounts of strength to finally adopt a cross-legged posture.
Sun Wukong stepped forward but was stopped by the white ape: “Great King, it would be better to let him proceed on his own.”
“If something happens to Big Brother, This Lady will make you suffer the consequences.” Qi Qi coldly said.
The white ape was unperturbed: “This Old Ape shall go help forage some Pure Yang Fruit and cold water for the Emissary to harmonize.”
First light from the east shone upon Qi Lin’s eyes. A deep autumn chill pounded his body. In this state of One Yin and One Yang, Qi Lin only felt his cells and pores were incomparably soothed.
In accordance with the remnant, Qi Lin began to cultivate the Nine Yins Nine Yangs Fortune Heaven.
The originally calm Yin and Yang qi were stimulated, and they immediately rose out of from his pores, filling his organs like bubbles. Due to the opposing relationship of Yin and Yang, the slightest mistake in cultivating the two could easily result in qi deviation. Qi Lin had no choice but to be absolutely focused. He carefully controlled the sea of Yin and Yang qi, allowing it to slowly separate, tempering his meridians bit by bit.
His five organs and six viscera, four limbs and hundred bones, three hundred acupuncture points, three thousand blood vessels, thirty thousand pores and innumerable cells all needed to be cultivated together at the same time. This was so difficult, but even more arduous was the yin entering his bones, causing his internal temperature to cool while yang flared across his skin, making his whole body burn up. The heat and cold alternated between each other. It was a great taboo of cultivation, let alone using it to cultivate.
Some of the yin and yang were not easily separated, and leaving them merged together was very dangerous. Qi Lin relied on a couple wisps of primordial qi to slowly separate them. While Qi Lin slowly cultivated, his forehead’s Star Crest also glowed.
Sun Wukong’s Divine Name cultivated the Great Chapter Heavenly Immortal Chant.4 This was a type of cultivation method that seized the fortune of Heaven and Earth, that absorbed the quintessence of the sun and moon. Qi Qi’s Divine Name had spent a millennia immersed in it before fianlly becoming proficient. After that moment, she was beyond the Six Paths and the Five Elements. Qi Lin also naturally inherited this cultivation method. The Great Chapter Heavenly Immortal Chant absorbed the quintessence of the sun and moon and the True Qi of Heaven and Earth completely into the body, giving rise to a perfect union with the Yin and Yang inside the body.
Those originally escaping wisps of yin and yang qi were surprisingly retrieved and bundled, returned to the inside of his body, and the originally taxing yin and yang sensation actually subsided by a large degree.
Qi Lin roused his spirits.
After the Primordial True Qi in his body circulated three hundred sixty cycles, the True Qi parted, becoming two levels.
In just a single night, Qi Lin had cultivated from Qi Refinement First Deva to Qi Refinement Second Deva.

…So, cultivator training weights?
I’m kinda reminded of Yusuke Urameshi’s training during the Dark Tournament arc.
Also, I like how little sisterly Qi Qi is!
I’m liking the pacing but, man, talk about min-maxing!
He’ll probably have a “Lee, take off the weights” moment lol
