This sound was like a bird, yet also like a snake.
Under this stormy weather, it was very unusual. In connection with the Western Sea God’s calamity of wind, it was like the god itself had emerged.
“My Lord, a boat is approaching us!!” A subordinate ran over and reported.
Xu Fu, Qi Lin, and Wang Jian glanced at each other and promptly walked out onto the deck. The storm showed no signs of abating, and they saw a large pitch-black ship speed over from the distance. This boat’s structure was eerie, with a human face and a bird-like body. Dangling from its ears was a pair of green snakes, and a pair of crimson snakes were coiled around its legs; it was like a monster. Under the calamity of shoal wind, a boat could hardly maintain balance. Even something like the Immortality Boat, with its fifty spellcasters maintaining an array, would be on the verge of capsizing, but that strange boat seemed to sail on calm waters. Upon closer examination, the storm’s fierce winds had no effect at all on it, as if they were specifically avoiding that boat.
Qi Lin wrinkled his brow. This boat’s appearance was exactly as Western Sea God Yan Zi was described in the Classic of Mountain and Sea. That eerie cry came from that boat’s human face.
“Blackbird Guard, make ready!” Xu Fu commanded.
Several dozen Blackbird Guards gripped their weapons and stood in formation.
A ray of killing intent suddenly spread over the ship.
Very quickly, that monster boat neared them. It came to a clean halt a hundred meters away. Compared to the lurching Immortality Boat, this ship seemed relaxed, as if it had divine aid.
The bird body boat had several cultivators dressed in bird-patterned long robes. These cultivators’ expressions were haughty, their gazes arrogant, like they were looking at ants as they coldly stared at the Immortality Boat.
A black-robed old man stepped forward and raised his arm.
An unbelievable scene occurred. The wind calmed, the storm dispersed, and the black clouds instantly scattered, revealing the moonlight.
“Huh?” Xu Fu’s expression changed.
Wang Jian stepped forward on the deck and cupped her fist. She calmly said: “Many thanks for the assistance, Fellow.”
“Hmph.” That old man harrumphed. His figure suddenly warped, and two crimson snakes appeared under his feet. He floated above the Immortality Boat. The old man’s eyes were dark as he swept his gaze over the Immortality Boat, as if he was appraising goods: “Not bad, not bad. The Immortality Boat, a ship hailing from the Western Primordial’s Ancient Qin Kingdom. I hear you convene an Immortality Banquet at the Shaman Spirit Kingdom every ten years, that you will bring five hundred virgin boys and girls to act as a medicine base. Quite extravagant.”
Five hundred virgin boys and girls? Qi Lin twisted his brow.
Wang Jian turned to Xu Fu.
Xu Fu calmed down and smiled: “This is only a rumor. We are merely going to the Shaman Spirit Kingdom to trade ingredients for medicine. If we may ask, Your Distinguished Self, who are you?”
“Seems you are unaware.” A golden light appeared behind this old man. It manifested the Bagua, showing he was Golden Core Bagua Realm. At least two of the Trigrams in that golden light were already refined. Although he was only Golden Core Realm, he was a bit arrogant and bossy, placing himself above all others.
“This Old Man is Li Hezi,1 one of the Ten Great Deacons of the Western Sea God’s cult, the ‘Yan Zi Cult.'”
“Oh, Xu Fu has never heard of you.” Xu Fu maintained her smile.
“Hmph, the Register Of Deities has opened. Gods and Divine Names are born from tribulations, and this Western Sea is the domain of my god. Starting the moment the Register Of Deities opened, all people who enter Mount Wuling must pay respects to my god. Only when tribute has been offered can you pass.” Li Hezi shouted: “From the Calamity Of Shoal Wind just now, you presumably have already witnessed the might of my god. Should you show disrespect, I will sink you here.”
His way of conducting business was quite like how a cultist would extort people. If he had not personally witness the man’s arm turn the Calamity Of Shoal Wind to nothing just now, Qi Lin absolutely would have thought the man to be a swindler.
“How can the magnificent Divine Name of the Western Sea learn how those pirates from the west plunder, with your interceptions and obstruction. If word got out, wouldn’t this shame your Divine Name.” Xu Fu beamed from ear to ear, each of her words very sincere.
“Impudent!! You dare compare my god to a pirate, it seems you want this Immortality Boat sunk?” Li Hezi shouted.
Xu Fu promptly said: “I have long heard of the Western Sea God’s reputation, I do not dare be irreverent.”
“Very well, then offer half of your boat’s goods as tribute to my god. Then, you may pass these waters and enter the Shaman Spirit Kingdom.” Li Hezi nodded in satisfaction.
Xu Fu’s expression chilled: “If we were to hand over half, how could we make any transactions at the Shaman Spirit Kingdom. Your Distinguished Self, this is very overbearing of you.”
“If you do not, then your boat sinks right here.” The old man icily said.
“Ridiculous, to swindle us under the guise of serving a Divine Name, how is this any different from robbery. So what if you actually serve a Divine Name!!” Wang Jian shouted. As a grand Star Name, she would not tolerate being ordered about by a Golden Core cultivator. With a bellow, she shot upwards, stepping on air, as if a Vermilion Bird had spread its wings on her back.
Wang Jian sliced towards him.
The completely red sword-light promptly illuminated the black night, forcing the old man to squint.
“A Star Name dares to be irreverent to my Lord God. You have brought about your own doom!!” The old man waved his arms, and one of the crimson serpents under his foot flicked its tongue and flew forth. This serpent was like a sword-light, immediately entangling Wang Jian’s sword.
“Volley!!”
Xu Fu commanded.
The Blackbird Guard had already been waiting for orders. Their enormous crossbows were raised and aimed into the sky.
Twang.
The thick bolts rolled up streaks of black smoke as they shot towards the Golden Core cultivator. These bolts were all fabricated from a special steel. Their power was boundless, and they were able to pierce through the steel armor of opposing boats. The old man roared. Suddenly, golden light radiated everywhere, and in this light, the form of a large pestle emerged. Mountain and sea talismans surrounded it; it was surprisingly a magic treasure.
“Tier Three Ability – Great Pool Divine Thunder!”
The old man used another ability. The seawater erupted, and countless water-thunders surged upwards, blasting the Immortality Boat, rocking it nonstop. The reinforcement array cracked bit by bit under his Divine Thunder. At the same time, that monstrous boat’s cultivators also began to chant. Heaven and Earth darkened, and a storm surged. Astonishingly, it was the calamity of shoal wind again.
Wang Jian’s sword repelled the crimson serpent. Then, she fought against the pestle magic treasure, but once the calamity of shoal wind appeared, countless rain droplets pounded her body simply like millions of cannonballs. The Star Energy on her body was basically unable to defend against this, “I will take your Star Name as tribute to my god.” Li Hezi disdainfully said. The other crimson snake opened its jaws. It unexpectedly wanted to swallow Wang Jian alive.
Jian Destroys Six Kingdoms!!!
Wang Jian attacked with her Destined Skill. Six rays of sword-light descended into the snake’s mouth and were surprisingly devoured.
“What??”
“This is Divine Energy that my Lord God has bestowed upon me. An insignificant Star Name like you dares to be impudent.” Li Hezi cackled. He pointed his finger, and that crimson snake opened its jaws again, a shockingly two meter span, like a large sac. Just as Wang Jian was about to be devoured, all of a sudden, a rumbling filled the world.
The calamity of shoal wind was shaken apart, and a silver arrow-light flew forth from the Immortality Boat.
The arrow shot into the crimson snake’s mouth. The arrow-light pierced straight through the snake, killing it.
“Ah!!! Chilian!!!”2 The old man’s face was deathly pale. He glared furiously at the man who loosed the arrow.
Xu Fu stared blankly at the young man beside her.
Qi Lin had pulled on the bowstring and loosed an arrow in one smooth motion, “If a cult is bullying people around, then the god they serve is surely unworthy of being a god!!”
“You dare!” The old man roared in fury.
Qi Lin did not hesitate to nock a second arrow. This second Cloud-piercing Arrow shot forth with a quaking feeling.
What wouldn’t I dare!!
