The curtain of night fell, and Qi Lin sat on the bed. The ocean jostled the Immortality Boat, and a massive wave jerked the vessel about wildly. The ship rocked like a cradle; even with some spell arrays for support, it was difficult to protect against tidal waves.

A sinister flash of lightning cut open the night sky, illuminating the water’s surface. Rumbling thunder pierced the eardrums like the roar of a beast about to devour the Immortality Boat.

Nearly three months had passed since they embarked on the Immortality Boat. This was already not the first time he had seen this type of ocean storm. While Qi Lin was already accustomed, Qi Qi still found it unbearable, so sick was she that she was nauseous. Her face was pale, and she ached to charge onto the deck. The girl could only immobilize her thoughts like stone, enter her own mental world. This was a bit like hibernation, sealing off her senses towards the outside world. By doing so, she would not be affected by external factors at all, but similarly, if they encountered danger, she would be completely vulnerable.

Qi Lin sat unsteadily on the bed, allowing the storm outside to howl.

At this moment, he had more important matters to attend to.

The Ninth Deva unfolded around him like a heavenly canopy, following his thoughts. His Ninth Deva True Qi continuously cycled and interchanged. His heart was calm, and the gift of a Qilin Child was displayed.

The various attitudes of humans and the contradictions of the world were the great Yin and Yang, containing everything therein. The slow path of cultivation over a lifetime was a forge, and everyone underwent smelting in it. Some practiced with proficiency and glowed, others were unable to bear it and were destroyed.

The Fortune Body absorbed the tribulation of the rainstorm, the fury of the thunderclap, and the roar of Heaven and Earth.

Qi Lin casually sat there, relaxed. He had quite the Daoist ease about him. The Fortune Body combined with Qi Qi’s contracted Innate Skill, and all of his pores slightly closed and opened as if he was breathing the Yin and Yang of the world. His True Qi Ninth Deva entered the core formation Realm, which was an enormous hurdle. Countless heroes had been destroyed on the True Qi Ninth Deva Realm and were unable to advance further.

To refine the Ninth Deva True Qi into a core required great talent, perseverance, skill, and training.

Most cultivators took at least twenty years.

Qi Lin had spent no more than half a year from entering the First Deva to the current Ninth Deva. Even an Earlier Heaven Qilin Child was nothing special.

Qi Lin had the status of Qilin Child, the Fortune Body, the Great Chapter Heavenly Immortal Chant, and other various strange powers that were slowly accumulated, causing the Ninth Deva True Qi to exhibit changes.

The First Deva True Qi melted into his dantian. This True Qi carried power sharper than any blade as it stabbed into his dantian region. Qi Lin’s mind and body were steadfast, unmoved. There was no disturbance to his willpower as he allowed this Deva True Qi to attack. Then, his thoughts turned into a vortex.

The second True Qi melted into his dantian. This one represented capability and contained the vitality to return to youth. Then, it mixed in as well.

The third True Qi came from resonance with the primordial and his mind’s ferocity, the display of will to fight when challenged with difficulty.

Then it was the Fourth Deva True Qi that was the freedom to control one’s own body and others’ bodies.

The Fifth Deva True Qi was the responsiveness to crises and composure in the face of the unknown.

The Sixth was the mind, the Seventh control over time and space, the Eighth the freedom of Heaven and Earth. After the last Ninth Deva of primordial and self, the Realm of conforming to myriad changes, was thoroughly melted in, the True Qi of the nine devas combined into one, endlessly smelted like a spinning ball.

The faint signs of core formation.

Qi Lin slowly opened his eyes and gently sighed.

Having undergone three months of training, the Ninth Deva True Qi was finally a step away from “Golden Core Bagua.” According to past cultivation experience, at least half a year of time up to a couple years at most was needed to train Ninth Deva True Qi to core formation. By then, the entire body would have been reconstructed, and one would genuinely step through the threshold of cultivation.

Thinking of this, Qi Lin was a bit excited. This way, he could use magical energy to open the “Huaxia Ancient Diagram.” Ever since that time he inadvertently awakened it, Qi Lin was unable to activate this treasure. Apparently, his Primordial True Qi was already powerless to operate it; the magical energy from core formation should be sufficient.

The Immortality Boat was still jerking about.

This rocking movement was especially violent, more dangerous than before.

Qi Lin walked out onto the deck, the rain pelting down and cracking like a machine gun. Qi Lin  pointed his finger, and a wisp of True Qi shielded him.

“Qi Lin.” Wang Jian was on the deck checking the Immortality Boat’s situation.

“Why’d you come out. The storm outside is very severe. Rest, we will arrive at the Shaman Spirit Archipelago in a few days.”

“My Ninth Deva True Qi has already condensed into a core, is there anything that requires assistance?” Qi Lin asked.

“You are nearly Golden Core so quickly?” Wang Jian said in astonishment.

“True Qi is merely a core that has yet to be condensed. All it needs is time.”

“This takes too long and is too wasteful of the mind. With your current potential as a Qilin Child, by the, you can just look for some core formation medicines when we reach the Shaman Spirit Kingdom.” Wang Jian smiled.

Qi Lin nodded. He shared the same idea.

“Why is it raining so hard?” Qi Lin noticed that many cultivators had already come out to bolster the spell formation.

The Immortality Boat’s spellwork was continuously being washed away by the downpour and then reformed.

The storm was extremely fierce. Qi Lin had no doubts that even an aircraft carrier would be torn to pieces.

This foul weather made Qi Lin feel a bit uneasy.

This was Wang Jian’s first time at sea as well, so she was not very sure.

The pair arrived at the captain’s quarters. Xu Fu was in the middle of flipping through an old book. Her serious expression made the pair feel that things were not too good.

“Xu Fu, what’s the situation right now, can the Immortality Boat last?” Wang Jian asked.

“You’re here.” Xu Fu was taken aback and closed the book. “It should be able to hold.”

“Judging by your expression just now, it doesn’t seem very optimistic?” Qi Lin frowned.

“This storm is not normal weather.” Xu Fu shook her head.

Qi Lin could also see that. He used True Qi to protect himself on the deck just now, but he still sensed how terrifying the storm’s might was. Even a Tier Two or Three ability could not be so fierce. If he had not homogenized his Ninth Deva True Qi and condensed it into a core, he would not have been able to persist just now.

A storm like this was simply like a formidable ability.

“I forgot that many Divine Names were born into the world when the Register Of Deities opened, creating waves and winds.” Xu Fu bit her lip.

Qi Lin and Wang Jian glanced at each other.

“Xu Fu, just what is happening?” Wang Jian did not want to be kept in the dark.

“I had just been reading through these maritime records. This storm is known as ‘Calamity of the Shoal Wind.'”1

“What’s the Calamity of the Shoal Wind?” The two had never heard of this.

“This is the ability of a Western Sea Divine Name. In particular, those who enter the waters she rules will meet with this sort of weather.”

“What kind of Divine Name?” Qi Lin solemnly asked.

“This Divine Name may be the Western Sea’s god, ‘Yan Zi.'”

“Huh? Lin Ci!!” Wang Jian’s expression changed, “This is a very formidable Divine Name of the Immemorial Royal Family. Back during the Primal Chaos Heavenly Court period, Donghuang Taiyi had dispatched her to govern the Western Sea, and the Western Sea’s Dragon King even pledged fealty to her.”

“Yes, I had never encountered this before.” Xu Fu sighed. “I hope I’m overthinking.”

The atmosphere was a bit heavy.

Immediately afterwards, a strange scream from the depths of the ocean shattered her hopes.

    1. Generally, chapters for Investiture of the Star Generals are much shorter compared to 108MOD and Maiden Galaxy, but it doesn’t make tl’ing any easier or faster lol
