“Fuyunzi, did you see it just now?”
The Western Sea God Cult deacon watched that faraway fleeting blue light enter the depths of Changliu. Although it was visible for only a moment, based on a cultivator’s astonishing visual acuity, he was still able to discern the appearance of a divine bird. The Western Sea God Cult’s faith was in Western Sea God Yan Zi, but they were not unfamiliar at all with the former master of the Western Sea, White Emperor Shaohao. The absolutely beautiful form of her mount, the Illusionary Flying Snow, was etched into their minds, for that was a rare sight in Primordial World.
Fuyunzi grimly nodded: “Not bad, that is indeed the steed of the White Emperor, but her Realm is not very strong.”
“Strange, why would there be an Illusionary Flying Snow here, I thought this Spirit Beast had already gone extinct.”
“Changliu is the place where sacrifices were once offered to the White Emperor. This place has always been very mysterious. Back when the Ten Shamans ventured into the center, they said not a single word after emerging while there was no sign of any other cultivator who went in having left alive. I fear this place conceals one of the White Emperor’s mysteries. Perhaps it is this Spirit Beast.” Fuyunzi analyzed.
Amongst the Western Sea God Cult’s deacons, Fuyunzi was the most composed, his mind the most analytical. He was always able to measure the key advantages and disadvantages of any situation, so everyone was quite confident in him.
“Perhaps the cultivators intruding into Changliu disturbed the Spirit Beast. They ought to have been killed.” The man spoke with certainty.
Fuyunzi grunted. What he cared most right now was already no longer the group of intruding cultivators but this Spirit Beast. If they could capture the White Emperor’s mount, that would be an enormous boon for their Lord God Yan Zi. The Shaman Spirit Kingdom’s Ten Shamans had condescended to their Lord God while the Western Sea God thoroughly resuscitated herself to once again reach that splendor and glory that unified the Western Sea.
“Deng Yu,1 this matter requires deliberation. We should first return and inform Lord God, await her commands.” Fuyunzi said.
“Sure.”
Deng Yu replied. Then, the pair vanished as an escape light into the forest.
At the same time, Wu Gu wanted to die in another part of Changliu’s rainforest.
She was carried on Qi Lin’s back, her chest stuck to the young man, her arms wrapped around his neck while her legs wrapped around his waist. Wu Gu had never thought in all her life that she would adopt such a humiliating posture. However, she did not even have the strength to speak. She had ingested the “Phoenix Womb” pill, a kind of miracle elixir that could overdraw her power with assistance from a Divine Beast’s Divine Energy. This type of pill was the life-saving item of the Shaman Spirit Kingdom’s Shaman Clan. Once used, if they could not kill the opponent, they would temporarily fall to such a helpless situation.
Qi Lin apparently sensed the woman’s humiliation. He feigned nonchalance: “This Illusionary Flying Snow was very powerful. Fortunately, you went all out Wu Gu, otherwise we would have died here. Didn’t you know before that there was such a Spirit Beast in this place?”
Wu Gu snorted.
Qi Lin recalled that she was without strength and set her down to rest. Wu Gu meditated, and only after a while did she finally think to take out a pill to barely replenish her strength.
“If you already knew there was such a Spirit Beast here, do you think the other Shaman Spirit Kingdom’s Ten Shamans would sit and watch?” Wu Gu retorted.
“Meaning none of you knew.”
“Changliu has always been very mysterious. Legend said that the White Emperor’s power protects this place. You’ve seen the dangers lurking about this place. Very few cultivators are willing to step in. This place is split into three levels, the outer for sacrifices to man, the middle for sacrifices to Earth, and the last to Heaven. Each level is more dangerous than the one before. Back then, when the Ten Shamans entered the final Heaven level, we all sensed the White Emperor’s divine might. Consequently, we abandoned any thoughts of going further. Now, it seems, this divine might is perhaps related to the Illusionary Flying Snow.”
“Then which level are we on right now?” Qi Lin asked.
“The outermost, the Man level.”
Hearing her say this, the flaming soul of a tomb raider ignited in his heart. Qi Lin suppressed his burning desire with all his might, for he knew this place was not Earth. The dangers in this place’s forbidden grounds were another level of harrowing. Without a certain cultivation level, he absolutely could not step easily into this place.
“But why would the Illusionary Flying Snow appear here?” Wu Gu could never even think that this Spirit Beast would be drawn over by the Holy Beast heart inside Qi Lin’s body.
“Never mind, let’s not dwell on this any longer. Your current condition isn’t suited for hunting this Spirit beast.” Qi Lin changed the subject.
Wu Gu sighed and wrung her hands in lament.
She was unable to grasp this type of once-in-a-blue-moon opportunity. Changliu’s depths were increasingly dangerous, and to hunt the Illusionary Flying Snow here was even more uncertain.
“Do not speak of this matter to anyone, otherwise you will invite trouble upon yourself.” Wu Gu warned.
Qi Lin would have done so even without her direction.
“How much of those Nine Lives Orchids did you gather.” Wu Gu asked.
“Lots.” Qi Lin took out a bag which contained several hundred square meters .
“Let’s hurry and go retrieve the cauldron.” Wu Gu took a deep breath, “We must not stay long.”2
“But isn’t this place called Changliu?”3 Qi Lin cracked a joke.
Wu Gu rolled her eyes. Right now, she was unable to laugh.
Afterwards, Wu Gu did not want to be carried on Qi Lin’s back. Instead, she made him prop her up as they moved forward. Along the way, Qi Lin fully displayed the tomb-raiding talents passed down from his ancestors. According to fengshui and the topography, Qi Lin avoided every kind of danger and mechanism. Each step he took was gradually able to sense good places, though Wu Gu slowly sensed something was amiss.
However, she did not have too much time to think it over. Qi Lin and Wu Gu entered the place in Changliu’s outer levels that were sacrifices to man. This place was like an abandoned city, and he could even still see the outlines of every kind of submerged palace. Many of the structures had deteriorated to piles of debris, and the palaces were carved with the ancient traces of frozen time. Each detail was a memory all its own.
Qi Lin seemed to even be able to imagine the bustling scenes of those times from these run-down buildings.
To think of the splendor of those years yet to look at the ruins before him, Qi Lin could not help but feel there was a dismal atmosphere.
Under Wu Gu’s directions, the pair arrived at a shabby suspension bridge. Below was a deep pit, with many figures faintly visible. These figures were like souls from hell struggling to crawl up. Due to the darkness, Qi Lin could not see clearly, however, he could more or less figure out why.
Although this was a place to sacrifice people, a Divine Name would not actually use living people as tributes.
This pit was probably similar to Qin Shi Huang’s funerary army. However, the size of this pit left Qi Lin a bit fascinated.
Crossing over this bridge, there was an enormous statue of a strange beast afterwards. There were several female sculptures in the surroundings, and their hands held bronze fire pans. The tinder in the fire pans had already been reduced to ash, but Qi Lin discovered from a glance that the inside surprisingly still had oil.
Qi Lin feared that the lantern oil was a trap. In several tombs he raided before, the fire pans’ oil contained a plethora of microorganisms. If the mixture was ignited, this would produce bizarre miasma. Some would make people hallucinate, others would skin fester, but they were all very dangerous.
Wu Gu was a bit content to see his caution. The woman lit the oil, and the flame quickly illuminated a several dozen meter range around then. This fire carried a particular scent and was very bright. There were no impurities, giving people a kind of extremely warm sensation. Just the slightest waft would make even the soul feel very comfortable, as if nirvana had been attained.
“This lantern is known as a ‘Soul Returning Lantern,’ and the oil is extracted from the organs of a kind of Divine Whale on the seabed of the Western Sea. It never depletes. If a cultivator trains under this fire, they can preserve their soul. This is a very good material for Golden Core stage cultivators cultivating to Primordial Infant.” Wu Gu explained.
Upon hearing it was beneficial for cultivating to Primordial Infant, Qi Lin’s eyes suddenly gleamed in the fire.
