“What’s the matter with you?” Yingmeng blinked.
Chen Mo put away his thoughts, “You can tell me about Mount Hua’s state of affairs now, right.”
“Fine. This Lady sees your thirst for knowledge and shall reluctantly inform you.” Yingmeng waved her long sleeve and sat upon a rock.
Although she was a little girl, her hermit-like demeanor was actually quite on point.
Milu walked over. Seeing that Chen Mo was sitting down, she sat down as well.
“Among Star World’s ‘Five Moons,’ the Star Generals currently remaining at Mount Hua aside from Ancestor Chen Tuan amount to less than seven. They are the weakest force among the Five Moons. Mount Hua is even still kept in mind by Yang Guang1 of the Sixteen Star Marquis only because of this blessed land. If you go to Mount Hua now, you honestly won’t be of too much help.”
Chen Mo asked: “What happened to ‘Sleeping Immortal’ Ancestor Chen Tuan? Is she unable to go on?”
“The Sleeping Immortal is fond of naps and chess…She is very formidable, but the disciples she instructs are truly too few in number. Ever since Zixiu’s2 Star Name was sealed in Mount Hua, the current Mount Hua is already without the Five Moons spiritual power it once had back then.” Yingmeng was very regretful. “However, This Lady has actually heard that Zixiu’s Star Name did not return to Maiden Mountain. Rather, it remains sealed in Mount Hua. Countless people have scrambled madly to find her Star Name…” Pausing, Yingmeng vigilantly looked at Chen Mo, treating him as the target of skepticism as well.
Zixiu was Zhuangzi, a so-called Second Sage-level character.
Even if there was only a bit of power in the Star Name, it was enough to make a person benefit for the rest of their life, to achieve meteoric success. Back then, Mount Hua was able to stand at the top of the Five Moons, striking awe into Star World; Zhuangzi’s might and contributions could not go unnoticed.
“I came to find an old friend. If I can cultivate at Mount Hua, of course I’d be happy, but even if I can’t, I’m still here to see her, play chess and make small talk.” Chen Mo calmly answered. As for a Sage Star Name like Zhuangzi’s, he felt genuine admiration from the bottom of his heart. Even though women carried the name on in Star World, nothing had changed at all.
Yingmeng noticed Chen Mo’s sincerity and said: “Play chess? You can’t possibly mean with the Sleeping Immortal.” She immediately dismissed this guess. The Sleeping Immortal’s chess skills were unmatched, and she was comparable to a chess sage like Huang Longshi. Chen Mo could cultivate his chess skills for a hundred years and still could not possibly be her match.
“As you wish. This Lady only wants to inform you that the current Mount Hua is far from being as well-regarded as in the legends. There’s no need to wear yourself out over this.” Yingmeng lowered her head and tended to her herbs/
Chen Mo grunted.
“If you truly still plan to go to Mount Hua’s main gate, This Young Lady will still abide our agreement and guide you through the Vast Sky Plankway.” Yingmeng casually said.
“Then, I ask that you lead the way.” Chen Mo smiled.
Yingmeng stopped her task and lifted her head. The girl’s expression was helpless.
This man truly did not know when to give up.
…
Above the Mind Return Stone was Mount Hua’s first danger zone, “Thousand Chi Banner.”3
Here, the mountain banners stood tall, leaving only room wide enough for one person to ascend or descend. On both sides, iron chains sagged, shaped like serrated blades. The slope was also steep, and there were more than ten thousand steps altogether from top to bottom, none of them being wide enough.
Immediately looking up, there was a crack in the sky shaped like leaping frog or like a squirrel stuck to a wall. Going down was more dangerous than going up, like looking down into a deep well, a state of vertigo.
“This is the first trial of Mount Hua’s main gate, Thousand Chi Banner.”
They gazed up at a narrow passage leading up, winding round and round. Although precipitous, to a cultivator who trained in Star Energy, this seemed to not be very dangerous. Chen Mo skeptically asked: “This is it?”
Yingmeng nodded: “Yes. Don’t tell me This Lady would trick you?” The girl rolled her eyes and chuckled: “Do you feel it dangerous? There were plenty of cultivators with the same thoughts as you, not a single one was able to pass the Thousand Chi Banner.”
Oh, seems like there’s a mechanism?
Chen Mo nodded.
“Past the Thousand Chi Banner is the Hundred Chi Gorge. Then, you will see the Vast Sky Plankway. After you pass that, you will be able to see the main gate. As for whether or not you can enter Mount Hua’s gate and cultivate, that will depend on your luck.”
“Then until we meet again.” Chen Mo cupped his fist.
“To want to meet This Lady again, you will definitely be very miserable then.” Yingmeng snickered. She pondered for a moment, then took out the gourd on her waist. She poured something into a porcelain bottle and handed it to Chen Mo.
“Inside is This Lady’s personally refined ‘Defense One Qi.’4 It can cure every illness, heal every wound, fortify your mind, and more.”
“Sounds like it can cure anything. Isn’t that a panacea.” Chen Mo said in astonishment.
Yingmeng wrinkled her adorable nose: “This Lady knows you despise me, but This Lady informs you that My Star Name will be begged for in the future by top-notch Star Generals.”
“I don’t despise you.” Chen Mo smiled: “Being chased by a pig is no big deal. Every person has some weak points. We aren’t sages, after all.”
Yingmeng held her chin, her expression serious. Then she giggled: “I notice you are a bit different from other cultivators.”
“In what way am I differnet?” Chen Mo asked.
Yingmeng made a face, turned, and walked into the forest.
Chen Mo raised his head to look at this rugged Thousand Chi Banner. He said to Milu: “Milu, do want to stay here and wait for me?”
Milu shook her head, “I want to go take a look, too.”
“Sure.”
…
Mount Hua main gate.
A girl in a beautiful long robe and a sash was currently training her spearmanship in the courtyard. In her hand was a long dragon spear that surged like a serpent, unleashing intense gales that were unstoppable.
Her body techniques were agile, her feet nimble; she was graceful and beautiful.
The Star Generals currently left at Mount Hua’s gate were limited to just a few people. The girl’s training was diligent yet somewhat lonely.
“Li Xiao,5 are you not tired training like this?” Another girl in black clothes walked out from a side room. She yawned and stretched, having apparently only just woken up.
“Hmph.” Li Xiao glanced at her, great disdain in her eyes: “It is already late in the morning, and you only just woke up to cultivate. Too slow.”
“Cultivate? The headmaster has been in slumber for so long, what meaning is there in cultivating on our own.”
“That Yang Guang is bullying Mount Hua, yet you can still remain aloof?” Li Xiao was indignant.
“Relax, as long as the headmaster is here, what do we have to be afraid of. Besides, when the times come and there is real danger, we’ll just go our separate ways at worst.” The woman in the black tube top stood under the sun and washed her face.
Li Xiao grit her teeth and continued to train meticulously as before.
“I think your lover ran off somewhere to play without you again, and you’re just venting.” The woman teased.
“En garde.” Li Xiao coldly shouted. She raised her spear, unleashing a chain-like cold light.
The woman’s figure vanished from under her spear and landed to the side, toothpaste bubbles still frothing from her mouth: “Wait until I’ve eaten breakfast, and then I’ll spar with you.”
“En garde.” Li Xiao did not abandon the matter.
Spear-light became a coiling serpent, twisting the air into howling.
The black tube top woman dodged left and right, easygoing and relaxed with her evasion. Suddenly, her body stiffened, and she stopped, showing an astonished expression as she looked upwards.
The girl’s spear already stabbed at this moment. Seeing her surprisingly not dodge, Li Xiao was aghast.
“Bang!”
The black-clothed woman caught the speartip between two fingers.
“Why did you not dodge?” Li Xiao asked in displeasure.
Her counterpart hinted behind herself.
Li Xiao turned her head back and looked. She saw a little girl had appeared in the sky, her white Daoist robes fluttering in immortal-wind, her long white hair flowing like a river.
“Ah, Headmaster!”
Li Xiao exclaimed and promptly knelt.
The normally asleep and secluded headmaster had actually come out. This was honestly too unbelievable.
The little loli’s eyes were closed, as if she was deep in thought.
The two girls noticed that the gaze of Mount Hua’s current headmaster was aimed down the mountain. The path down this mountain was the Vast Sky Plankway, the training path for Mount Hua’s main gate.
“He has finally come.”
The little loli tapped with her foot and landed light as a feather atop a roof, a faint smile flitting across her delicate lips.
She has come?6
Who?
Huang Longshi?
“Can it be that forty-nine days of chess are about to commence.” Li Xiao’s elation suddenly vanished into thin air. She had thought that the headmaster had emerged from her sleep and seclusion to give pointers on their “Dao.”
