Heaven fed man through the Five Flavors: sour to the liver, bitter to the heart, sweet to the spleen, pungent to the lungs, and salty to the kidneys.1
The Five Flavors each had their own strengths, and when the five were gathered together, the soul was born.
This was the Green Satchel Book’s Five Flavors Soul Returning Powder.
Qi Lin saw that this prescription was perfect, an enormous help to the soul, and he saw some of the ingredients seemed to be very easy to obtain.
Gold-silver grass to the lungs, one leaf reed to the liver, ice-water stone to the kidneys, earth-dragon orchid to the spleen…Qi Lin very quickly purchased four of the ingredients, but the one representing the heart, water of truth-return, could not be found. By asking around, he realized that the water of truth-return itself was helpful for supplementing the soul. There was a shortage of soul supplement pills and medicines in the Ten markets, so ingredients like these that had even the slightest use were all in great demand, practically unable to be purchases. Even if other cultivators had it, they would not sell it unless they were in dire need of money.
“Water of truth-return grows in a belt of islands to the north, you could look there.” A merchant from the trade house suggested to Qi Lin.
The northern part of the Fog Spirit Archipelago stretched across three thousand li. It was full of innumerable craggy rocks, fantastical waterfalls that dropped down in mountain forests, forming spectacular scenery. Water of truth-return grew in lakes, waterfalls, ponds, and the like. It would wither upon meeting salt water, so finding water of truth-return was not difficult. What was difficult was that too many cultivators were foraging for them, so it was not easy to find even after hours of searching. This made Qi Lin a bit depressed. If the ingredient was so difficult to find, then the Five Flavors Soul Return Powder would be very troublesome to concoct. It seemed he would need to find a replacement.
However, Qi Lin wanted to first try concocting a batch of Five Scent Soul Return Powder. He did not have too much experience in refining pills, so he could only slowly fumble his way to experience. Fortunately, he was talented enough, and a few hours spent on this should be no problem.
Qi Lin carefully wandered through the island forest. Along the way, he saw many cultivators forming parties.
There were some risks and dangers to foraging for materials in the Fog Spirit Sea. Mugging and plundering, in other words, the law of the jungle, was not rare at all in Primordial World, especially in places like the sea. Thus, many low Realm cultivators were willing to form partnerships. This made Qi Lin recall memories of dungeon-crawling games.
But Qi Lin had no partners in this place.
“Nothing again.”
Qi Lin used his Divine Intent to scan a waterfall. He had cultivated Three Yins Three Yangs, and his Divine Intent was far stronger than other Golden Core cultivators. His perception was also faster, but after several hours, he had yet to see a sign of the water of truth-return.
Several hundred li later, the cultivators were beginning to gradually thin out. Any further, he would be beyond the Fog Spirit Sea. That place was extremely dangerous, with many Primordial Fierce Beasts. Generally, Golden Core cultivators would not tread there lightly.
“Little Brother, don’t advance further. Up head is the outer sea, and that place has many Primordial Demon Beasts that are fond of using precious materials to lure in cultivators, only to deliberately attack afterwards.”
A Golden Core Second Trigram Realm uncle saw Qi Lin was continuing to fly forth, and he could not help but kindly call out.
Qi Lin stopped and looked at this man; his eyes were very sincere. Qi Lin asked: “I want to find water of truth-return. Does Uncle know where I can find some?”
“Water of truth-return, huh. There aren’t anymore here, too many cultivators are looking for this.” This uncle said: “Even if the outer Fog Spirit Sea has some, you’d best give up. That place is too dangerous. Anyone below Golden Core Five Trigrams would be dooming themselves.”
“Many thanks for the warning, I’ll just go look.” Qi Lin was grateful.
“The Demon Beasts are all intelligent. Be careful.” This uncle could see from Qi Lin’s face that he was fearless. The man said nothing more. In any case, he had already given a kind warning.
After taking his leave, Qi Lin continued to fly onwards. As expected, the boundless outer seas were even more expansive, with no sign of cultivators in sight.
Qi Lin was not afraid with his Approaching Heaven magic treasure present. He probed around with his Divine Intent.
“What is this lotus flower?”
He did not find the water of truth-return, but Qi Lin noticed an even more astonishing spirit medicine.
He spotted it in a pond full of duckweed. There was a hidden red lotus quietly in bloom. This lotus was shaped like a person’s heart, with layers petals stacked upon one another, and they also pulsed like a heart, emitting the thick scent of essence-blood. With just a waft, this scent resonated with his own heartbeat; it was more potent than water of truth-return.
“If I use this for the elixir, maybe it could work as a substitute.” Qi Lin thought, and he flew over.
He carefully inspected the surroundings, and confirming there were no enemies within a range of a ten li, he finally set about extracting the lotus flower.
But just at this moment, the water heaved.
That lotus suddenly retracted, promptly turning into a bud. The duckweed floating in the pond parted, water splashed, and an immense maw opened towards Qi Lin. A giant demon python had surprisingly been hidden under this demonic lotus.
“I knew it wouldn’t be so simple.”
Qi Lin sneered, calm and composed.
He thrust his palm down towards it. His palm seal thundered against its mouth, yet that demon python swallowed the attack, treating the Rank One martial art as food. Qi Lin used the Heavenly Vertical Horizontal Escape and was already clear of the python. He thrust his palm again, ruthlessly slamming it into the red python’s head.
Qi Lin was not afraid of the red demon python. His attack was direct and deadly, for he wanted to take the red demon python’s lotus.
Indeed, that lotus grew on top of the demon python’s head.
The red demon python suddenly turned its head 180 degrees. Qi Lin saw a flicker of red light in its eyes. Then, it flicked its tongue, and a gorgeously blinding dark red blade appeared in front of Qi Lin. The red demon python indignantly hissed and used its power.
The abstruse crimson light was like a galaxy that instantly swallowed Qi Lin.
Dual Modes Seal!!
Qi Lin formed a hand seal. He inverted Yin and Yang, Qian and Kun. His arms were like blades that carried an ear-piercing whistle as well as an intense astral wind. He ruthlessly cut into the red demon python’s body, piercing deeper. The red light nearly split him in half.
Nine Fingers Of Hell – Ghost Cry!
“Hiss”
The red demon python jolted as if it had been shocked. Its body shuddered intensely, and it lifted its head, uttering a wretched hiss. The snake tail whipped heavily at Qi Lin. Just the wind from the tail alone bore the scent of a bloody carnage, like it was ten thousand attack swords. This bloodthirst immediately drilled into Qi Lin’s heart, surprisingly making Qi Lin’s soul suffer a shock.
Seizing this fleeting moment, the red demon python suddenly lunged forth, constricting Qi Lin like a lasso.
The red demon python had underestimated Qi Lin’s combat strength. Although he was only Golden Core First Trigram, Third and Fourth Trigram Realms would not necessarily be able to face him. Qi Lin broke free with a finger, and his killing intent split the red demon python’s skin open.
When the next stroke of his finger came, the red demon python realized it was in danger. Seeing the situation was unfavorable, it immediately leapt into the air and scuttled back, pulling a certain distance away from Qi Lin.
Qi Lin had miscalculated his chance to kill this red demon python. He could not help but feel a bit of regret in his heart. This demon python was indeed somewhat intelligent. The demon python coiled its body, its scales glowed, and its eyes turned red. Qi Lin had already prepared his Dark Heaven magic treasure when, all of a suddenly, a bolt of divine thunder descended from the sky and struck the demon python, causing it to screech.
A figure quickly pounced over. Before Qi Lin could react, that demon python was surprisingly gone.2
What?
Qi Lin was taken aback, flabbergasted.
These changes had happened too quickly.
